Easton put down his phone and accepted the water from her. “Ryan texted me. He had a really important private event tonight, so he left the hospital early.

“He now has time to check on Mr. Roth after it’s over.”

Sophia nodded. ‘Glad it’s not work. I’d hate to be holding him up,’ she thought.

Seeing that Sophia had almost finished eating, Easton started clearing away the containers.

“Aren’t you going to have something? You haven’t eaten dinner either,” Sophia asked, sounding a bit concerned.

Easton shook his head. “I’m not hungry.”

Sophia watched as Easton busied himself, looking nothing like his usual distant, above-it-all self. ‘When did he change so

much?’ she wondered.

‘Is this really the same Easton, the richest man in Jenston, always so overbearing and in control?’ Sophia couldn’t help but

think.

When Easton finished tidying up and noticed Sophia staring at him, he couldn’t help but chuckle.

He walked over and waved a hand in front of her face. “What’s wrong? Spacing out on me all of a sudden?”

Sophia’s cheeks grew warm. “It’s nothing. I was just lost in thought.”

Just as Easton was about to say something, Julian and Annie came rushing in.

When Sophia saw Julian, she quickly stood up and went straight to them. “Julian, Annie, here you came.”

Annie pulled Sophia into a hug. “You must’ve been scared out of your wits, huh?”

Sophia shook her head.

Easton followed her and walked over to join them. “When Mr. Roth was wheeled out, I already messaged Julian on WhatsApp.

“He’s stable for now, but the doctor wants him to stay here for observation a bit longer. Once all the tests look good, you guys can ask about getting him discharged.”

Julian and Annie gave a nod in response..

Annie squeezed Sophia’s hand gently. “Sophia, let Easton drive you home tonight, Julian and I will stay here watching over

Edward.

“Your hands are ice cold. You’ve been through so much, and you’re worn out. Go home, soak in a hot bath, and get some real rest. You can come back tomorrow, okay?”

Sophia cast a worried look at Edward lying in the hospital bed, reluctant to leave.

But since the hospital didn’t allow so many visitors to stay overnight, she could only do as Julian and Annie said and head home for now.

Sophia got into the car with Easton, and neither of them said a word the whole way. She was dead tired.

Work had been hectic lately, and she hadn’t been sleeping well at all. Not long after she sat down, she nodded off, barely able to keep her eyes open.

While the car was stopped at a red light, Easton gently draped his jacket over Sophia, then softly brushed his hand across her brow and eyes.

His eyes were filled with nothing but tenderness.

Easton turned up the AC a bit and kept driving steadily.

Half an hour later, they pulled up to the gates of the Roth residence.

Easton couldn’t bring himself to wake Sophia up, nor could she bear to let her go just yet.

He wished Sophia would always lean on him like she did tonight, letting him take care of her, letting him be there for her.

Easton parked the car on a quiet stretch of road and just sat there, quietly watching over her, not wanting the moment to end.

At midnight, Sophia slowly opened her eyes and Successfully unlocked! on’s car. She pulled out her phone to check

the time. It was indeed late.

She turned and saw Easton asleep in the driver’s seat, too.

Sophia thought to herself, ‘Easton must be wiped out, too.

‘He’s been taking care of everything for me all night, didn’t even eat, and now he’s just staying here with me, unwilling to wake me up.’

Easton’s change was so drastic, and it felt unreal to Sophia.

She couldn’t help but feel differently about him tonight.

But she knew deep down it was just gratitude for him getting Edward to the hospital so fast and looking after her.

As for all those other confusing feelings, Sophia shoved them to the back of her mind.
