385.Chapter 385
Sophia had her mind at the meeting and didn’t even notice the shock on May’s face.
“Sophia, are you and Mr. Foster back together?” May suddenly raised her voice.
Sophia frowned, then couldn’t decide whether to laugh or cry at May’s over-the-top reaction. “What nonsense are you saying?”
May rushed up to Sophia, anxious. “I told you I saw you arrive in Easton’s car, and when I asked if you were with him last night, you nodded in response.”
Sophia was almost pissed. She quickly explained, “I nodded because I did come to work in Easton’s car today. And yeah, I was with him last night, but only because Uncle Edward passed out at home.
“Easton just happened to be passing by the Crestview Group building, so I ran into him when I came down. He was the one who helped me take Edward to the hospital.
“Then today, he probably thought my car was still in the shop, so he came to pick up Lucas for school and dropped me off at work. That’s all there is to it.”
After finishing, Sophia went back to flipping through her files. Then, as if something suddenly occurred to her, she looked up and asked, “Did Mr. Howard tell you about it last night?”
May sat down in front of Sophia and shook her head.
She replied, “I was at a bar association training yesterday, and phones weren’t allowed. As soon as it ended this morning, I drove straight to Crestview for our meeting.
“I haven’t even had a chance to call him. I bet he drank a ton at some business dinner last night, and he still hasn’t called
me.”
Sophia nodded in understanding, then filled May in on what happened with Edward last night.
“Good thing Mr. Roth is alright. You guys got him to the hospital just in time. If you hadn’t, I don’t even want to think about what could’ve happened,” May remarked.
She glanced at Sophia, who was focusing on her paperwork, and with a mischievous look, started to ask, “Sophia, you…”
Sophia interrupted, “May, don’t get any ideas. Seriously, there’s nothing between Easton and me.
“I appreciate what he did last night, but that’s nowhere near enough for me to take him back. Right now, we’re just Lucas’s parents, nothing more.”
Sophia knew exactly where May’s mind was going, so she cut May off before she could start with her wild guesses.
“Honestly, I doubt Easton feels the same way,” May said.
Sophia paused for a moment. Truth was, she didn’t believe it either.
Sophia replied, “Whatever he thinks or does, that’s out of my hands. All I know is I’m concentrating on work right now.
“Not only do I have to stay on top of things at Crestview, but I’ve also got a brand new project at Rothea Designs that’s
about to start.
“I seriously don’t have the time or energy to figure out what he’s planning. Let’s go, May. We’ve got a meeting to get to.”
Sophia stood up, clutching a stack of files, and headed out.
May nodded, flashing a bright smile. “Alright. Got it. Wait for me.”
The Jenston Chamber of Commerce’s 50th anniversary party was held at a hot spring hotel run by Hayes Group.
The hotel was way out of town, so Derrick showed up at the Roth residence early to pick up Sophia.
By the time they arrived at the hotel, it was almost eight o’clock.
Since it was the Jenston Chamber of Commerce’s party and Easton was one of the directors, he showed up with a whole entourage tonight.
Gordon and Katherine tagged along, and naturally, Allison, the director of Foster Group’s legal department, was there as
well.
