388.Chapter 388
But his grip was just too strong. No matter how she struggled, Sophia couldn’t break free.
Easton said, “Sophia, remember what we agreed? You said you’d give me your answer in three months.
“Just tell me. If all that mess hadn’t happened, would you have given me a shot? Would you have let me pursue you?”
Sophia was surprised that Easton still remembered what he’d told her at the airport before heading off to Menolia.
Sophia let her hands drop, then looked up at Easton.
‘Honestly, if none of that had happened… would I really have given him a chance?’ she wondered.
Easton leaned his forehead against hers, his voice rough and desperate. “Sophia, be honest with me. You still love me, don’ t you?”
Sophia nervously bit her lower lip, her voice barely above a whisper. “Easton, I…”
Suddenly, a voice sounded at the door, “Hey, Easton! They said you were coming to the chamber’s anniversary party tonight.
“Why are you just hanging out in the lounge? I brought you some water…”
The door to the lounge suddenly swung open, and Sophia, startled, shoved Easton away and jumped to her feet.
Charles froze the moment he saw Sophia’s reaction, then glanced at Easton behind her. They were the only two in the lounge.
‘Oh man, did I just ruin Easton’s moment?’ Charles thought, his heart skipping a beat.
If gazes could kill, Charles would’ve been dead nine times by now.
“Oops! I’m terribly sorry, Easton, Sophia. I’ll leave you two alone. I’m heading out now,” Charles blurted, awkwardly retreating.
Sophia quickly called out to stop him. “Mr. Thorne, since you’re already here, could you give Easton his medicine later? I need to go downstairs for something.”
“Wait… Sophia, you don’t have to leave. I’ll go instead,” Charles said, trying to stop her.
But Sophia ignored him and hurried out of the lounge.
Charles didn’t even dare turn around to face Easton. “Easton, I just remembered I have something I need to handle real
quick.
“I’ll leave the water on the cabinet by the door. I’m heading downstairs now. Get some rest, okay?”
With that, he shut the door behind him and slipped away.
Easton ran a weary hand over his collar, loosened his tie, and collapsed onto the couch, utterly spent.
‘What was Sophia’s answer, really?’ he wondered, the question echoing endlessly in his mind.
After leaving the lounge, Sophia headed downstairs and slipped into the powder room, just standing there for a while.
Her heart was racing. Easton’s words had almost been too much for her to handle.
She glanced at her reflection in the mirror, noticing how her face was burning red.
Sophia quickly moved to the sink and splashed some water on her face, “Sophia, you’re so useless,” she muttered to herself.
She berated herself, all flustered and out of sorts. ‘Is Easton some kind of devil in disguise? Every time I get close and look into his eyes, I just can’t help but fall for him,’ she pondered.
‘Sophia, come on! Good looks mean nothing. He’s such a player. Why are you still hung up on him?’ she scolded herself.
Sophia stayed in the powder room for more than 20 minutes before finally stepping out.
As soon as she stepped out, she ran right into Allison.
“Good evening, Ms. Roth,” Allison greeted her.
Sophia gave a faint smile. “Hi, Allison.”
Allison had just heard from Gordon that Easton wasn’t feeling well and was resting upstairs. She was genuinely worried and even suggested going up to check on him.
But Gordon immediately shut her down. ‘If East Successfully unlocked! vay Gordon would just leave him alone up there, she thought.
Hence, she started to suspect that maybe Easton wasn’t alone on the second floor after all.

But Ryan was busy giving his speech on stage earlier, and Charles was still working the crowd. It couldn’t be either of them.
Then Allison realized Sophia was missing from the main hall, too. The only person she spotted was Derrick, Crestview’s VP, chatting with the chamber directors by himself.
A sudden thought crossed Allison’s mind: was Sophia actually upstairs in the lounge with Easton?
But seeing Sophia walk out of the powder room on the first floor, she breathed a sigh of relief.
