397.Chapter 397
Sophia arrived in Jenston at five in the afternoon the next day.
As soon as she stepped off the plane, she saw the sky was thick with dark clouds. She felt lucky she’d made it back early.
If she’d been any later, the heavy rain would’ve made landing a lot more difficult.
Paolo had been waiting at the airport entrance since early morning.
When he saw Sophia pushing her luggage out, he hurried over to help. “Ms. Roth, good thing you got here early. Looks like it’s about to pour any minute.”
Sophia nodded. “Yeah. Let’s go. Take me to Silvermoon Bay.”
“Sure thing,” Paolo said with a grin.
After Sophia got in the car, she gave Easton a call.
Easton’s voice was hoarse and low over the phone. “You’re back?”
‘Why does Easton sound so rough?’ Sophia thought, surprised.
“Yeah, I just got back. Heading over now. Are you okay? Your voice sounds really rough,” she said.
Easton coughed lightly, clearing his throat. “I’m fine. Lucas has almost recovered. A maid is giving him some light food now. I’ve got a video call coming up. Let’s talk when you’re home.”
“Alright,” Sophia agreed.
After hanging up, she was still suspicious. ‘Easton really doesn’t sound fine. Maybe he was infected by Lucas, she thought.
“Paolo, can you speed it up a bit?” Sophia urged.
Paolo hesitated, looking a bit uneasy. “It’s rush hour in Jenston, and it’s raining. The airport is far from Silvermoon Bay. Best case, it’s still an hour and a half drive.”
Honestly, with the heavy rain and traffic, they were not getting there in less than two or three hours.
Sophia glanced at the mess outside. “Forget it. Just take it slow. Better safe than sorry.”
Sophia grabbed her phone and called May. “Are you out on a business trip?”
“Yeah, I am. What’s up?” May answered.
“Take care of yourself out there. The flu’s pretty bad lately, so don’t forget your mask wherever you go. Lucas has been sick for a few days now,” Sophia reminded her.
May set her papers aside, her brows knitting. “What’s up with Lucas?”
Sophia looked genuinely confused. “Ryan didn’t mention anything to you?”
May froze for a moment, not wanting to admit she and Ryan had been at odds and hadn’t spoken in over a week.
Truth was, he just couldn’t reach her.
May explained, “I’ve been buried in a business dispute case and traveling for days. Sometimes I miss his calls, and even. when he does get through, it’s just a quick chat before he hangs up.
“So, I haven’t heard anything about Lucas being sick. Is Lucas doing any better now?”
May quickly changed the subject.
Sophia could tell her intention and answered, “Easton said Lucas is much better now. I just got back from Japoria, and I’m heading straight to Silvermoon Bay to see him.”
“Easton’s always meticulous. With him looking after Lucas, he’s in good hands. And Ryan will make sure they have a doctor on standby,” May reassured her.
“Yeah. That’s true,” Sophia replied.
May paused for a moment. “Sophia, I’m feeling a bit tired today. I think I’ll turn in early. I’ll call you tomorrow, okay?”
Sophia could sense something was off. ‘May never gets tired. That’s just not her style, she thought, feeling a bit suspicious.
Also, May’s tone was definitely off.
“May, did you and Ryan have a fight?” Sophia ask Successfully unlocked!
May had to give Sophia credit. She always seemicu to pin up on things su easily. Although she didn’t mention it, Sophia strangely figured it out.

May didn’t want to dump her bad vibes on her best friend, though. “Nah. I’m really just tired.”
Sophia didn’t push her. She figured May would talk when she was ready. “Alright, my dear. Just make sure you take care of yourself while you’re out there, okay?”
May just hummed in response and hung up in a hurry.
She flopped onto the bed, phone still in hand, and cursed Ryan out in her head.
‘Ryan, you scumbag!’ she fumed.
Ryan and the deputy director of the hospital were standing in Easton’s study when Ryan suddenly sneezed. Easton gave him a sharp glare.
“Double up on your masks. Don’t go spreading germs around the house. Sophia’s about to get home,” Easton said.
