400.Chapter 400

400.Chapter 400

After finishing her water, Sophia carried a glass of water upstairs and stopped outside the study door.

She hesitated, her hand lingering in the air.

After a moment’s thought, she gently knocked on the door.

A deep, magnetic voice called out from inside, “Come in.”

Sophia walked in and saw Easton with a mask on, completely absorbed in his paperwork.

The only sound in the study was the rustling of papers.

Easton didn’t bother to look up, figuring it was just Myra coming in.

“Thank you, Myra. Just leave it on the desk and go get some rest,” he said.

Sophia walked over and gently set the glass down on the desk. “Why are you still up so late? Did you remember to take your meds?” she asked.

Easton heard that familiar voice and instantly looked up, his eyes meeting Sophia’s unexpectedly.

When he saw Sophia standing there, his face lit up with surprise and happiness.

“Sophia, weren’t you supposed to take Lucas back to the Roth residence?” he asked.

Sophia didn’t mind Easton calling her so intimately.

“Lucas is worried about you. He said you were sick and didn’t want you to be left here all by yourself. He said we should wait until you’re feeling better before heading home,” she said.

Easton stood up and walked over to her. She said it was Lucas who wanted to stay, but she hadn’t left, after all.

He couldn’t help but wish. Maybe, just maybe, Sophia was worried about him, too.

With just the two of them in the study, standing so close, Sophia could feel the atmosphere getting a little awkward for no

reason.

“Here’s some water. Drink up. Don’t stay up working too late, and try to get some rest,” she said.

After saying that, Sophia turned around, ready to head out.

But before she could leave, Easton hugged her from behind, holding her close. “Sophia, I’ve missed you. So much.”

Sophia stiffened, her whole body going rigid as Easton held her tightly from behind.

Suddenly realizing what was going on, she spun around. “Easton, you’ve got a fever. Didn’t you notice?”

She reached up and pressed her hand to his forehead. Even without a thermometer, she could instantly tell he was burning up. It had to be at least 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

Easton touched his own forehead, trying to calm her down. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll take my meds, and the fever will go down soon.”

Sophia shot him a glare. ‘Seriously, you’re a grown man. How do you still not know how to take care of yourself?’ she thought.

She stepped around him, poured out the pills the doctor had prescribed, and set the water down in front of him.

She commanded, “Take your medicine and get some rest. Work’s never going anywhere.”

Easton felt a gentle warmth in his chest as he watched Sophia offer him the pills and water with her delicate hand.

‘She really does care, he thought.

Easton smiled softly. “Alright.”

He took the pills out of her hand, and whether he did it intentionally or not, his fingertips lingered, grazing her palm.

Sophia’s instincts kicked in, her guard up. ‘Is Easton actually trying to flirt with me right now?’ she couldn’t help but wonder.

Sophia couldn’t believe that he still had the energy to do so while he was sick.

She bit her lower lip, watching Easton swallow his medicine. She was just about to head out of the study.

But before she could leave, Easton set down his glass, walked over, and firmly took her hand in his.

Easton just sighed in resignation, thinking, ‘Come on, this is her home, too.

‘Forget it. Sophia is already back, and she’ll be staying at Silvermoon Bay for the next few days anyway. If I get too pushy, I’ll just end up really ticking her off.’

Sophia saw Easton just standing there, frozen in place, feeling amused, wondering when he had become so obedient.
