She blamed May, as May always dragged her into those naughty conversations, and last night she even sent Sophia a video.

Sophia gave her cheeks a quick slap, trying to snap herself out of it.

Thinking about May, Sophia was pretty sure something had happened between her and Ryan. She couldn’t help but worry about May, so she grabbed her phone and called right away.

“Wow, Sophia. You actually have time to call me?” May teased as she picked up.

She had just finished work and answered immediately when she saw Sophia’s caller ID pop up.

“I didn’t go into the office today. I’m at Silvermoon Bay, looking after Lucas,” Sophia said.

She didn’t dare mention that she was actually taking care of Easton, too.

“How’s Lucas doing?” May asked.

Sophia answered, “The doctor stopped by this morning and checked him out real quick.

“He’s basically back to normal. No more meds needed. Just give him some vitamin C to boost his immunity.”

May settled back into her office chair. “That’s great. You can finally relax.”

“May, did something happen between you and Ryan?” Sophia asked.

May knew Sophia would ask sooner or later, and she wasn’t about to keep it from her.

“Ryan and I are done,” May answered bluntly.

Sophia was genuinely shocked. ‘How did this happen? Weren’t they all over each other just a little while ago?’ she thought.

Not only had she been bombarded with their PDA every single

basically glued to Ryan’s side.

May was doing better than she had been, but just talking about it still made her feel awful.

May said bitterly, “Sophia, he didn’t even have to admit it. The day Sylvia came to see me, Ryan’s mom was right there with her.

“She told me Sylvia was the one the Howard family had picked out for Ryan ages ago, and they’re getting married next year.”

May scoffed, her laugh dripping with sarcasm.

She continued, “Do you know what it’s like to suddenly realize you’re just the side chick?

“Ryan kept saying he liked me and loved me, and I didn’t even care what anyone thought. I just moved in with him.

“When I found out, I was pissed, but honestly, I still wanted to trust him. I couldn’t let it go without confronting him face-to-

face.

“So that night, I confronted him, and he didn’t even bother to deny it.”

Since he didn’t deny it, that was basically admitting it.

May never told Sophia about how she actually slapped Sylvia right in front of Ryan’s mom, nor did she tell Ryan about it. She just swallowed it all, suffering in silence, figuring it was the payback she deserved for being the side chick.

“Sophia, do you even know how much this hurts?” Just remembering that day, her voice broke, and her whole body shook with anger and heartbreak.

Sophia just wanted to rush over and hug her best friend. She knew exactly how much May was hurting and could truly feel her pain.
