406 Chapter 406
406.Chapter 406
Hearing that, Easton suddenly remembered that Allison had a younger brother in Menolia who’d just graduated from high school.
Easton politely turned her down, “Thanks for your kindness, but please don’t bother. Sophia’s already bought plenty for Lucas.
“She believes in not spoiling kids or letting them waste things, so why not save those art supplies for Michael?”
Before Allison could respond, Easton mentioned he had a meeting and quickly ended the call.
Allison clutched her phone, her knuckles turning pale as she tried to hold back the bitterness in her heart.
By the next morning, Sophia was staring down a backlog of nearly a month’s work. She had no choice but to head back to Crestview Group.
Easton was back to normal, and seeing Sophia getting ready for work, he suggested driving her to the office.
Sophia refused, “It’s fine. Paolo brought my car over yesterday, so I’ll just drive myself.
“Besides, I don’t even know when I’ll get off work tonight, so having my own car is just easier.”
Easton really wanted to tell her that picking her up from Crestview would be no problem at all. He’d love to play chauffeur for her if it meant getting to spend more time together.
Sophia put on her shoes, grabbed her bag, and made her way to the garage without another word.
She got in her car and drove off, never once sparing Easton a backward glance.
Gordon stood respectfully by the car at the front gate, watching the whole thing play out.
He thought, ‘Man, chasing after his ex-wife is seriously an uphill battle for Mr. Foster.
‘He has even tricked Sophia into moving back to Silvermoon Bay, but honestly, the way those two act, it’s like they’re just strangers sharing an apartment.
‘Well, at least they have a kid together. That’s the difference.
‘Good thing they have a kid, honestly.
Come on, Mr. Foster, you gotta try harder. Even we onlookers are getting anxious for you.’
Once Easton got in the car, he said to Gordon, “When we get back to the office, give Mr. Howard a call.
“The Angel Fund of Crestview Group’s fundraising should be wrapped up this morning. If you hear anything, let me know right away.”
“Got it, Mr. Foster,” Gordon replied.
When Allison heard Easton was back at Foster Group, she was over the moon. She grabbed her files and headed straight for the CEO’s office.
But Easton had a mountain of work piled up, and the directors kept taking turns going in to report to him. Allison stood at the door with her files, waiting for what felt like forever, but she still hadn’t gotten her turn.
Katherine was passing by and thought about heading in, but when she saw how many people were waiting, she changed her mind and walked away.
Just as she turned around, Gordon stepped out of the office and called after her, “Ms. Chandler, just in time. Mr. Foster was asking for you.”
Katherine walked past Allison, files in hand, and caught Allison shooting her a look that could kill.
But Katherine didn’t think much of it. She’d seen that glare a million times before, ever since their days together at the Menolia branch.
Katherine knocked on the door and stepped inside. “Did you need something, Mr. Foster?”
“Have a seat,” Easton said.
He set his pen down, closed the file on his desk, and pushed it across to her.
He continued, “This is the Southern Development Zone Brief The fust phase is already going through environmental
review.
“You’ll handle the rest of the work and be the point of contact with Sophia.”

Katherine was confused. ‘Wait a minute. Wasn’t Gordon always in charge of this? Why is it landing on me now?’ she
wondered.
Easton could read her mind and didn’t even try to hide it. “If you reach out to Sophia, she’ll usually show up herself.”
Katherine caught on in a flash: Easton was definitely on an ex-wife-chasing mission.
“Easton, are you really serious about Sophia?” Katherine asked.
Right now, Easton wasn’t speaking to Katherine as her boss, but as her college senior from back in the day.
“Yes. It has to be her. No one else will do,” Easton replied.
