411.Chapter 411
Easton’s meal wasn’t exactly rushed, but it wasn’t slow either. During that half hour, Sophia quietly worked through three online files and answered a bunch of emails right beside him.
Easton had ordered her a coffee, but she didn’t even have a moment to take a sip.
“Ms. Roth, you seem even busier than I am,” Easton said.
He picked up his napkin and wiped his hands unhurriedly, then took a sip of water from the glass next to him.
Sophia didn’t stop working, just responded offhandedly, “Yeah.”
Easton smiled lightly. “Let’s go. They should be done talking by now.”
Sophia nodded, put away her phone, and followed Easton.
May had just come out of the room, clearly upset as she headed downstairs, her face showing signs she had been crying.
Sophia hurried after her.
Easton didn’t try to stop her.
Ryan walked over to Easton, looking all gloomy. “Easton, I finally get why you still can’t win Sophia back after all this time. Women, they’re just impossible. You can explain all you want, but it is like talking to a wall.”
Easton just lost for words.
“So, what do you think I should do?” Ryan asked.
Easton didn’t even bother replying. He just turned around and walked off, letting Ryan stew in his own misery.
Sophia caught up to May and grabbed her hand. “Did Ryan explain everything to you?”
May’s eyes were filled with tears, but she was holding them back. “So he explained, but what does that change? Am I supposed to just pretend nothing happened and go back to him? Or just believe whatever he says and let him fix everything?
“I’m not some clueless teenager who falls for every word a guy says. Come on, Ryan is the heir to Howard Group, and how could he not know if he is engaged? That excuse is just ridiculous.”
Sophia tried to comfort her. “May, take it easy, okay? Seeing you this upset really gets to me.”
She hugged May tightly.
“Babe, I’m not trying to defend Ryan here. He has spent most of his life overseas, hustling to build his own business in Menolia. If Leon hadn’t gotten sick last year, Ryan probably wouldn’t have rushed back to Jenston to take over Howard Group.
“You know how it is with rich families here. Engagements are usually set up by their parents ages ago. So honestly, it’s not impossible that he really didn’t know about it.”
May calmed down a bit, and as she listened to Sophia, she couldn’t help but feel like Sophia actually had a point.
Sophia hooked her arm through May’s and walked her back to the car.
“If Ryan truly cares about you and wants to be with you, he’ll talk things through with his family and resolve everything between the Howard family and Quinn family. Then, make sure the engagement is officially called off.
“Once that’s done, you two can finally be together openly, without anything hanging over you.”
May lowered her gaze, her emotions a complicated mix.
Sophia gently patted the back of her hand, comforting her. “You were never the other woman, okay? Don’t put that blame on yourself, alright?”
May nodded. “I know, but I still won’t see him until he and the Quinn family have truly settled everything.”
Sophia knew May well. Sophia thought, ‘May never compromise her values, no matter what.
‘Honestly, that’s probably the best. If a relationship can survive tough times, it is built to last.’

Not long after Sophia returned to Crestview Group, Ryan arrived with the contract.
“Ryan, please, have a seat,” Sophia said.
She poured Ryan a cup of coffee herself.
“Thanks,” Ryan replied.
Successfully unlocked!
Sophia didn’t waste any time. She picked up the contract and skimmed through it.

“Uh… Sophia, Ms. Roth, how is May doing?” Ryan asked, a little awkwardly.
Sophia looked up and gave him a gentle smile. “Don’t worry, she is fine. I talked to her, and she is feeling a lot better now.”
Hearing that, Ryan finally relaxed.
