413.Chapter 413
Because of the bad signal, Sophia wanted to let Easton know she was going to pack up and move back to Silvermoon Bay.
But Easton misunderstood her.
He thought Sophia was taking Lucas and moving back to the Roth residence.
He held his phone, his eyes growing dim as a wave of despair washed over him. Standing alone by the floor-to-ceiling window in his office, he felt utterly defeated.
Easton thought, ‘Sophia, all I want is to give you and Lucas a stable home.
‘Even if I’m not there with you.’
After having dinner with Derrick and the others, Sophia swung by the Roth residence. Uncle Edward was still in the hospital, and Julian had been shuttling between Harlinton and Jenston these days.
Annie was the only one at home.
“Sophia, you’re back? Where’s Lucas?” Annie asked.
Sophia hooked her arm through Annie’s as they walked inside. “Lucas is at Silvermoon Bay. I just came back to pack up some things. I’ll be staying there with him from now on.”
Annie was surprised and couldn’t help feeling a bit excited.
“Sophia, are you and Easton going to live together? Are you two?” Annie’s voice trailed off.
“Annie, don’t overthink it. Easton just wants to give Lucas a good environment like his dad. Honestly, I don’t think it’s really necessary, but since we agreed to co-parent, it’s only right that we respect each other’s choices,” Sophia said.
Sophia quickly shut down Annie’s speculation.
Annie couldn’t help feeling let down. She thought Easton had finally managed to win Sophia’s heart, but in the end, nothing had changed at all.
Poor Annie’s mom, always calling to check in and ask about them.
Of course, Annie had her own hopes. Whether as Easton’s cousin or Sophia’s sister-in-law, she just wanted to see them end up together and give Lucas the family he deserves.
Annie thought, ‘Easton used to be a total jerk, but lately, he has really turned things around for Sophia.
‘Whenever Sophia was in trouble, he dropped everything and rushed to her side.
‘He has even put his own life on the line for Sophia, throwing caution to the wind just to protect her.’
Annie really wished Sophia would give Easton a shot, but Julian had told her that if two people want to stay together for the long haul, they’ve got to go through tough times and let time do its thing.
After hearing Sophia’s decision, Annie didn’t say anything more. “It’s awesome that you and Lucas are moving back to Silvermoon Bay.
“It’s so close to us, we can visit you whenever we want. Plus, Easton will definitely make sure everything is set up for you, so you can work without any worries.”
Sophia smiled, already knowing what Annie was hoping for. She walked over to her. “Annie, I know you just want the best for us, and I really do appreciate it. But honestly, things between Easton and me are good as they are.
“We’re Lucas’s parents, and no matter what, we’ll always give him the best we can. Easton might not be the best husband, but he’ll always be a good father to Lucas.”
Sophia kept packing. “Annie, you and Julian really don’t have to worry about me. Lucas and I will be just fine. Tomorrow morning, I’ll take Lucas to the hospital to visit Uncle Edward and let him know about our plans.”
Annie kept helping Sophia pack Lucas’s clothes, chatting casually, “While you were away from Jenston, Easton actually brought Lucas over to see Edward pretty often.”
Sophia was taken aback. “Easton really takes Lucas to visit Uncle Edward?”
“Yeah, things between Edward and Easton have gotten way better lately. They’ll even chat about business trends now and then, and Edward shares some of his own advice with Easton,” Annie replied.
Sophia was honestly surprised. She never thought she would see the day those two would actually get along.

She only found out later just how bad things were between them back when she and Easton got married.
But thinking about it now, so much time has passed since everything that happened between her and Easton.
