Sophia smiled, set her bag down, and sat in her chair. “So you’re heading up the Southern Development Project now?” “Yeah, Gordon is just swamped, so Easton handed the project over to me a few days ago. Hope you’ll help me out, Sophia,” Katherine said with a laugh.

“Katherine, you always know how to tease me. Let me pull up the file and take a look. If it’s all good, I’ll see you this afternoon,” Sophia replied.

“Sure,” Katherine said.

After hanging up, Sophia opened the email and went through the document carefully. It was pretty much the same as before, just with an extra legal step added in.

Sophia grabbed her phone and shot Katherine a quick message, letting her know the file was good to go. They agreed to meet at the Southern Development Zone office at three in the afternoon.

Then she called May. “Are you free this afternoon? Can you come with me to the Southern Development Zone?

“We need to kick off the environmental process for phase one, and both companies need their legal teams there to coordinate.”

May sounded hoarse. “Babe, I’m sick. I probably can’t make it today.”

Sophia was really worried. “You were fine just last night. Suddenly came down with something? Have you seen a doctor yet?”

May coughed hard. “Not yet, but I’ve had some meds. I’ll be fine after a nap, so don’t worry about me.”

Sophia just couldn’t relax. Forrest was always buried at work, and May had lost her mom young, just like Sophia. Now she was dealing with a breakup, and on top of that, she was sick.

“Hang tight, let me come get you and take you to the hospital,” Sophia said.

May didn’t object. “Okay, I’ll wait for you.” She had a violent coughing fit.

Once Sophia picked May up, they headed straight to the hospital.

By the time they were done, it was already noon. Seeing May take her medicine and her fever finally break, Sophia finally felt at ease.

“Sophia, you’re so gorgeous and sweet. Easton totally doesn’t deserve you. Why don’t we just stick together and forget about men? They’re all useless anyway,” May teased.

Sophia couldn’t help but laugh. “May, don’t say silly things just because you’re sick.”

May was completely exhausted and fell asleep within minutes. Sophia quietly closed the door and headed out.

When Sophia arrived at the Southern Development Zone, she was right on time.

Sophia said, “Sorry to keep you waiting, Katherine.

Katherine wasn’t surprised that Sophia knew Allison. After all, they had already had to work together over the whole custody thing with Lucas.

The meeting was short and sweet. Katherine and Sophia were both all about getting things done, so once they got together, they wrapped everything up in no time.

Katherine had some important stuff to handle at the office, so she was planning to head out. “Sophia, I won’t be able to join you for the site visit, but Easton will be here later.”

Katherine glanced at Allison and said coolly, “Allison, are you done with your work? If so, you can ride back to Foster Group with me.”

As soon as Allison heard Easton was coming, there was no way she would miss that.

“Not yet, I’m still waiting for a reply from the Environmental Protection Bureau. Feel free to head out,” Allison said.

Katherine’s expression was unreadable, but since Allison insisted, she said goodbye to Sophia and drove off.

Allison quickly fell into step behind Sophia. “Ms. Roth, Easton hasn’t arrived yet. How about I join you for a walk-through of phase one?”
