Sophia smiled softly. ‘Actually, that cough medicine was brought over to Crestview by Ryan himself. He asked me to pass it along to May, she thought.

“May, I need to tell you something, but please don’t get mad,” Sophia said.

May looked at her, puzzled. “Don’t tell me you’ve got a guy now?”

Sophia couldn’t help but laugh, playfully nudging her. “Be serious,” she said.

“Just say it, as long as you’re not about to tell me you’ve got a man, I can handle anything else, May joked, grinning.

Sophia rolled her eyes, then got serious. “Actually, Ryan asked me to bring you that cough medicine.”

May paused, a little surprised. “How did he even know I was sick?”

Sophia said, “You haven’t been back to the firm for over a week. Of course, he noticed.

“Plus, the Angel Fund of Crestview Group is working with HopeTrust Charity now, so Ryan is here for meetings almost every other day. When he asked, it’s not like I could just make something up,”

May pursed her lips. “Alright, I get it.”

Sophia was a little surprised. May seemed way calmer than before. “You really don’t have anything to say?” she asked.

May let out a sigh. “Honestly, what is there to say? Ryan is just doing whatever he wants, and there’s nothing I can do about it. I’m not as heartbroken as I was before.

“Being sick these past few days gave me a lot of time to think. Maybe you’re right, maybe Ryan really didn’t know about the engagement. But that doesn’t change anything. I don’t blame him for that.

“I just can’t be the side chick. As for whether Ryan will ever break things off with the Quinn family, I honestly don’t know, and I don’t want to get my hopes up.

“So yeah, as far as I’m concerned, we’re done. Sophia, if he asks you for help again, just turn him down, okay?”

Sophia got what May was saying. She thought, ‘Now that things are over between them, it was best to have a clean break.

Sophia squeezed May’s hand. “Alright, I hear you. I’m grabbing dinner with Frank tonight.

“He and the Hayes Group already chipped in early for the charity and sponsored a bunch of medical equipment. I wanted to Thank him, so why don’t you and Emily come along, too?”

May shook her head. “No, I’ve got a client meeting tonight, and it’s about time. Tomorrow, I’ll join you and Lucas for dinner at Silvermoon Bay.”

They chatted for a while, then May left, and Sophia focused on her work

“There’s a problem with the Southern Development Project’s design plans, and I have to head over there right now. Looks like I won’t make it to dinner tonight.”
