438.Chapter 438
“It was just an accident, Sophia. Don’t blame yourself. Frank’s a catch. He’ll have plenty of great options in the future,” May said, trying to comfort her.
“Sophia, honestly, I’m not just worried about the rumors. I’m also worried about you and Easton,” May said.
Sophia looked confused. “There’s nothing going on between us. What are you worried about?”
May said, “Ever since you told me Allison has feelings for Easton, I’ve been really uneasy. Even though I’ve known her longer than you, I still don’t really know what kind of person she is.
“If she’s anything like Stella, wouldn’t that mean you and Lucas could be at risk?” May added and laid out her concerns.
Sophia understood exactly what May was worried about, so she told her about how Allison had saved Lucas at the mall today.
Sophia said, “Allison is really hard to figure out. She genuinely saved me and Lucas a few times, so I don’t want to make snap judgments about her.
“Honestly, I have my own doubts, too. But don’t worry, we’ll keep our distance from her going forward.”
Hearing Sophia say that, May felt a lot more at ease.
“What about you and Easton? Allison was pretty upfront about having feelings for him. If they end up together, could you really be that generous and wish them well?” May asked.
Sophia paused for a moment. “Easton and I are in the past now. If Allison is a good woman, maybe she is a better choice for him. I think I will wish them well.”
Allison noticed Sophia had been on the phone for ages and still hadn’t come back, so she found a reason to wander into the garden. Just as she got close, she happened to catch Sophia saying that.
Her eyes gleamed with cocky pride. ‘Knew it. Sophia totally buys my act, Allison thought, smirking.
All those so-called “accidents” before? They were all set up by her ahead of time, just so they’d think she was some kind of saint. The more favors they owed her, the more tangled up they’d get.
Allison figured she just needed to take things up a notch, show Easton her best side, and figure out how to get Sophia out of the picture.
She turned to leave, a sly smile tugging at her lips. She could practically taste victory, and the rush of it made her heart race. After hanging up with May, Sophia walked back into the house. She saw Easton sitting with Lucas, drawing together, while Allison was setting the table. The whole scene was so warm, it looked just like one big happy family.
Sophia suddenly felt a little uncomfortable, a twinge of sadness creeping in.
Easton noticed Sophia standing frozen at the door and walked over to her. “What’s wrong? Why are you just standing there? Come on, let’s eat.”
Instinctively, Easton reached out to take her hand, but Sophia pulled away,
“Lucas, let’s go wash up and get ready for dinner,” Sophia said.
Now Easton was left standing there, awkward and confused. ‘What happened to Sophia? She was so warm on the plane, and now after just one phone call, she’s back to being cold and distant?’ he thought.
Easton felt like his emotions were on a rollercoaster today.
When Allison saw Sophia deliberately avoiding Easton, she couldn’t help but feel smug. She stepped forward and said, “Mr. Foster, dinner’s ready.”
Easton’s expression was cool as he gave a slight nod.
As Sophia was about to come out of the bathroom with Lucas, Allison pretended to bump her elbow, making it look like an accident.
Easton turned around without thinking. “Be careful.”
Allison looked at him bashfully.
Just as Sophia stepped out, she saw the two of them exchanging a look that said it all.
