“Ms. Roth, I’m here,” Paolo said.

“Okay, just wait a moment,” Sophia replied.

Easton noticed Sophia barely touched her dinner and seemed off tonight. “Are you sure you’re okay? You barely ate anything. Is something bothering you?”

Sophia looked indifferent. “I’m fine.”

Then she turned to Irene, gently taking her hand. “Irene, we’re heading out now. I’ll take Lucas back to Silvermoon Bay tonight, and next weekend, I’ll bring him over to spend time with you.”

Irene couldn’t hide her reluctance. “You and Easton just got back, and you both look so tired. Why not stay the night at Windmere Estate?”

Easton couldn’t help but wonder why Sophia was in such a rush to leave.

“Irene, I have an important meeting early tomorrow, and Crestview Group is pretty far from Windmere Estate. So we really need to head back tonight,” Sophia explained patiently.

“It’s pretty late. How about I give you and Lucas a ride home?” he offered.

Sophia kept her cool, her voice as distant as ever. “No need. Paolo is driving, and Derrick has already cleared out the reporters at Silvermoon Bay. Don’t worry, once we’re home, I’ll have Lucas call you.”

Easton stood tall by the car, his features cast in shadow, a hint of loneliness in his eyes under the streetlights.

Sophia turned away. “We’re heading out now. Lucas, say goodbye to your dad.”

Lucas waved his tiny hand and called out a goodbye, and Sophia rolled the window back up.

The next day at work, after finishing up at Crestview Group, Sophia decided she should give Frank a call.

“Frank, are you back in Jenston?” she asked.

“Yeah, I’m already back,” Frank replied.

Sophia pressed her lips together. “I saw the statement Hayes Group and Rapid Tech Solutions put out.”

“I was the one who reached out to the Kerr family to call off the engagement. I just wasn’t right for Ms. Kerr. Even if none of this had happened, I never planned to be with her,” Frank said calmly.

Sophia thought, ‘The Hayes family is complicated, and Frank doesn’t have much influence in the family. The whole engagement is Jackson’s idea. There’s no way Frank could just call it off whenever he wants.’

But Sophia didn’t contradict him. “You’re a great guy, Frank. You’ll definitely meet someone who’s truly right for you.”

Frank smiled softly. “I’m really sorry. Because of me, Crestview Group almost suffered, and you nearly got targeted by people online.”

“Frank, don’t say that. It was all just an accident. None of us wanted any of this,” Sophia replied.
