When Sophia heard what Fletcher said, her head buzzed, and her mind just froze.

“Why did Easton go there?” Sophia anxiously asked Ryan.

“Sophia, Mr. Foster had just arrived at the ski resort. As soon as he found out we couldn’t find you, he rounded up his guys and started searching all over for you.” Ryan said, sounding really guilty.

“We tried to talk him out of it, but he just wouldn’t listen,” he added.

May tried to comfort her, she said, “Sophia, don’t worry. Easton’s got Warren and a couple of guys with him, so he should be okay.”

She added, “There was already an avalanche ahead of the ski resort, so it’s pretty much impossible for us to get through. And judging by the weather, it looks like another blizzard’s coming.”

She suggested, “Why don’t we leave the village with Mr. Lowe for now? Ryan will handle sending people to look for Easton.”

Just as May finished speaking, another loud crash echoed from up ahead. Sophia lifted her gaze to the gray, misty scene in front of her, her face going ghostly pale in an instant.

Ryan was just as anxious, but Easton had given strict orders. If they found Sophia, her safety came first; everything else was secondary.

He shot Fletcher a look, signaling for his men to get them out safely, but Sophia refused to budge.

“I’m not leaving,” Sophia insisted.

With that, she suddenly turned and walked back into the cabin.

She threw on her coat and slipped into a pair of basic ski boots she found inside. Frank seemed to realize what she was about to do and quickly stepped in front of her, blocking her way.

“Sophia, are you going to look for Easton?” Frank asked.

Sophia kept her head down as she laced up her boots, her voice low. “Yes.”

Frank was getting worked up, too. “Didn’t you hear what they said? Easton’s got his guys with him. He’ll be okay,” he advised

Sophia nodded, “Yeah, I know. But I still want to go look for him.”

Sophia grabbed her ski poles, sidestepped him, and walked straight up to Ryan.

“Ryan, I want to go with you and Fletcher to find Easton,” she said.

Ryan hesitated. Things were way too dangerous right now. There was no way he could just let her tag along.

Since no one said anything, Sophia spoke up again, “I’m going, whether you like it or not.”

Sophia didn’t want to waste time explaining things. She walked up to Ryan and spoke in a low voice so the others wouldn’t overhear.

“Easton’s got an old leg injury. If he really gets hurt out there, he won’t be able to hold out for long in the snow,” she said.

Ryan looked at her in shock. “Wait, so you knew that?” he asked.

Sophia trusted Ryan more than anyone. She’d never just tell anyone about Easton’s old injury.

If the wrong people ever caught wind of it, Easton could easily be in danger in the future. That’s why she only confided in Ryan.

Sophia only found out about Easton’s leg injury because Irene, during one of her muddled spells, accidentally let it slip to her.

Irene never really explained how Easton ended up with that old injury, but ever since that night when Easton opened up to her about his childhood, Sophia just knew his mom, Vivian, had something to do with it.

“Ryan, we don’t have time to think this through. Please, just let me come. I promise I won’t slow you down. I just… I just need to find Easton,” Sophia said. Her voice choked with emotion.

May could see how freaked out Sophia was about Easton, and she knew Sophia was stubborn as a mule once she set her mind to something, so she kept quiet and didn’t try to talk her out of it.

“Alright, let’s go,” Ryan said.
