475 Chapter 475
475.Chapter 475
At Crestview Group, Sophia had just finished up several project proposals that morning. Now she was slumped in her office chair, eyes closed, trying to recharge.
May knocked and came in, but Sophia didn’t react at all. May walked over and gently tapped her on the shoulder.
“Sophia, if you’re feeling wiped out, want me to take you home so you can rest up?” May said softly.
Sophia slowly opened her eyes. “You’re here?” she said.
May nodded. “Yeah, I came to bring a file over for Derrick.”
Sophia sat up and stretched her arms above her head, then glanced at her phone. ‘Wow, it’s already lunchtime, she thought.
“Come on, let’s grab lunch together and maybe hit the shops to blow off some steam. I’m totally swamped lately,” Sophia said.
May picked up her handbag and hooked her arm through Sophia’s.
“I figured with Derrick back at Crestview helping out, you’d finally get to relax. Turns out, you’re even more slammed than before,” she complained.
Sophia leaned her head on May’s shoulder. She said, “What can I say? That’s just how my life goes. I’m always busy. Honestly, I gotta hand it to Easton. He runs the entire international group, with branches in Menolia and Cedarica.”
She added, “His team’s great, but without a leader like him, there’s no way things would run this smoothly.”
May snickered, “Sophia, looks like you really worship your man.”
Sophia laughed, “It’s not worship, I’m just giving credit where it’s due. He really is impressive.”
“Yeah, Easton really is amazing. So, Sophia, are you already thinking about remarrying him?” May teased.
Sophia buckled her seatbelt, feeling a bit unsure how to respond. ‘Honestly, I don’t even know what to say to that, she thought.
After a moment, she said softly, “To be honest, we only just got back together, so I haven’t really thought that far ahead.”
She continued, “I feel like things are really good between us right now. He likes me, and I like him. As long as we’re happy together, I don’t care about all those official labels.”
May was driving, looking genuinely surprised. “Wait, I thought now that you and Easton are back together, it means you two are probably heading for a remarriage soon.”
Sophia knew May wasn’t the only one who thought that. Maybe a lot of people think the same way.
“When I was younger, I always believed marriage was the biggest promise a man could make to a woman. I know exactly how Easton feels about me. I can feel it. And I’m all in for him, too,” she said to May..
She added, “I’m just really happy we’re finally together. As for marriage, he already gave me that commitment once. If there’ s anything I regret, it’s just that we missed out on so many years together.
“That’s why I treasure every single day I get to spend with him now. It just feels so comfortable, no pressure, no expectations. And I don’t have to be tied down by a marriage certificate or the Foster family’s expectations anymore. May nodded.
Sophia smiled, “Do you think I’m just being dramatic?”
May shook her head. She replied, “No way.”
She added, “If two people are really meant to last, it’s not some piece of paper that proves it. Honestly, even though you’ve already been married, I don’t think I’d want marriage tying me down either.”
Sophia turned her head and asked, “Has Ryan ever popped the question?”
May gave an awkward little smile. “Kind of. He’s hinted at it a bunch of times, but I always just joke around and steer the conversation somewhere else.”
Sophia felt a bit guilty, worried that maybe her words had influenced May’s views on marriage.
