506 Chapter 506
506.Chapter 506
After Weston Group went bankrupt, Sophia tried to track down the source of those funds, but all the records had already been wiped and erased.
The only thing she could confirm was that once the money entered the country, it was all managed by the same group.
Thinking it over, Sophia realized that in Jenston, only Foster Group, Howard Group, and Hayes Group had the resources to pull off so much under the radar in such a short time.
Given how close Ryan and Easton were, Howard Group was basically off the suspect list.
Which meant Hayes Group was the only one left.
Edward had once hinted to her that the reason he turned Frank down when he came to ask for her hand was that their families had always been at odds.
As for whether Frank was the one pulling the strings, Sophia couldn’t say for sure, but she was certain he knew more than he was letting on.
Sophia grabbed her phone and dialed Easton’s number.
The call connected after just one ring, and his deep, magnetic voice came through, smooth as velvet.
“Finished for the day?” Easton asked.
Sophia curved her lips into a small smile. “Yeah. Got any plans tonight?” she replied.
“If you’re calling me yourself, even if I had something on, I’d drop it in a heartbeat for you,” Easton replied.
Sophia chuckled, “I was thinking of cooking tonight. Would you do me the honor of joining me?”
Easton couldn’t help but smile, “Of course.”
When Easton got home that evening, Sophia was already busy in the kitchen.
He walked in and hugged her from behind. “Ms. Roth, what’s got you in such a good mood to cook tonight?” he teased. Sophia turned around and wrapped her arms around him. “Just wanted to spoil you a little for working so hard for us. Besides, I did burn through a few hundred million of your money recently.”
Easton leaned down and kissed her lips. “Everything I have belongs to you anyway.”
Sophia just smiled and didn’t say anything.
“Mommy, Daddy, can we eat now? I’m starving,” Lucas called out, his voice full of innocence.
He stood at the kitchen doorway, looking all adorable and sweet.
Easton let go of Sophia’s waist and walked over to pick Lucas up. “Sure, let’s go wash your hands first.”
After dinner, Sophia and Easton took a stroll through the garden.
“Sophia, is there something you want to talk to me about tonight?” Easton asked.
Sophia couldn’t help but be impressed by how Easton always seemed to know what was on her mind. She came to a sudden stop, facing him directly.
“Is Frank really going after Foster Group?” Sophia asked, her voice low.
Easton reached out, running his fingers through Sophia’s hair, his gaze completely calm and giving nothing away.
“Yes,” he replied.
“Frank’s doing all this because of me, isn’t he?” Sophia asked softly, a hint of guilt in her voice.
Easton narrowed his eyes, watching her quietly. “Looks like you’ve already put some of the pieces together, Ms. Roth.”
Easton didn’t wait for Sophia to ask. He laid out everything he’d uncovered so far.
Sophia looked straight at him. “Why didn’t you ever tell me?” she asked.
Easton hugged her gently. “I didn’t want you to worry, and I didn’t want us to play right into someone else’s hands. I’d never let anything come between us, not even a hint of misunderstanding.
“It just wasn’t the right time yet. We’re still working on our plan. If you knew too much, you’d only get more anxious.” Sophia had never imagined just how cautiously Easton watched over their relationship, always shielding it from anything that might harm them.
Her gentle voice drifted to his ear, “Easton, promise me, from now on, let’s never let anyone easily get between us or shake our trust. We have to always trust each other, no matter what happens.”
