Sophia nodded, finally understanding why he always seemed to know exactly where she was.

“Does it bother you that I’ve got people following you around?” Easton asked.

If this had happened before, Sophia would’ve been mad. But after all that’s happened recently. If it made him feel at ease, she was okay with it.

“No, I know you’re just worried about me,” she replied.

Easton brought Sophia’s hand to his lips and pressed a soft kiss on her fingers.

“Relax. They’re around twenty-four seven, but they’ll only step in if it’s necessary. They won’t get in the way of your life or work,” he assured her.

Sophia nodded, squeezing his warm hand in return. “Okay.”

The Cedarica Research Center was about to go public, and after Allison left, Katherine took over the legal department. Sophia had planned to ask Katherine out for dinner tonight, but she’d been on a business trip to Cedarica for two weeks already.

“I thought you were back in Jenston by now. Didn’t expect you to still be in Cedarica,” Sophia said.

Katherine let out a sigh, “Guess I’m just doomed to work myself to the bone. Sophia, maybe you could whisper something in Easton’s ear and get him to cut me some slack?”

She added, “If I keep burning the midnight oil like this, I’m gonna drop dead before my time.”

Sophia snorted, “Sorry, Ms. Chandler, but I’m not allowed to meddle in company affairs.”

Katherine laughed along with her.

“The research center’s going public at the end of the month. After the board signed off, the Cedarica Research Center’s office is set to open in Jenston, right by the Maritime Authority.” Katherine explained.

“The building’s already there, but the interior still needs work. Easton wants Rothea Designs to take care of the whole thing,” she added.

Sophia glanced at the documents in her hand.

“Yeah, he told me about it last night. I didn’t expect your team to send the files over so fast after the meeting. I just started looking them over and you’re already reaching out,” she said.

“With Easton at the helm, things move fast,” Katherine said.

Sophia chuckled, “Alright, no need to sing his praises in front of me. The Southern Development Project is about to kick off, and it’s hard to get anything done without you around.”

She added, “I’ll ask Easton tonight and see if he can get you back here soon,”

“Thanks, my Queen,” Katherine joked.

Sophia just shook her head with a smile.

When it was time to clock out, Easton called Sophia. “Are you off work yet?” he asked.

“Yeah, just wrapping up here. You haven’t gotten on your flight yet?” Sophia asked and glanced at the time on her computer.

“I’m about to leave, too. Just wanted to call you before I head out,” Easton said.

Sophia closed her laptop, smiling softly. “Mr. Foster, when did you get so clingy?” she asked.

Easton replied with a straight face, “If you hadn’t said no, it wouldn’t be Ryan and Gordon flying with me to Cedarica right

now.”

Ryan and Gordon thought, ‘So where are we supposed to sit? On the roof?’

Sophia smiled and said, “Work’s been crazy lately, so I can’t get away. But I’ll make sure to show up a few days early for the big launch party at the end of the month.”

Easton could only sigh. His wife was famous for being a workaholic.

“Alright, I’ll be waiting for you,” he said.

After hanging up, Sophia headed straight to the parking lot to get her car.

Right then, May called, “Hey Sophia, your dress is ready. Come try it tonight.”

“Perfect timing, I just finished work. I’ll head over now. See you in a bit!” Sophia replied.

Sophia drove out of the parking lot, with the bodyguards’ car right behind her.

Not long after they left, a white sedan started tailing them. The woman behind the wheel kept her distance, clearly trying not to get noticed by the bodyguards, blending in with the flow of traffic.
