Sophia looked at Charlotte and Eleanore, totally confused. She asked, “Charlotte, do you know Eleanore?”

Charlotte sat down on the couch, arms crossed, sounding a bit annoyed, “Yeah, we were college classmates.”

Eleanore sat down, too, right across from her, with an even sourer look. “We are college classmates and roommates,’ she said.

Sophia and the others exchanged curious glances. They couldn’t help but wonder what could possibly make these two usually gentle and classy ladies go at each other like this.

Annie had just taken a sip of her juice when her stomach suddenly turned. She quickly covered her mouth, feeling a wave of nausea hit her.

Sophia asked nervously, “Annie, what’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?”

Eleanore hurried over and handed her a tissue. “Annie, are you sure you’re okay?” she asked.

Annie shook her head and replied, “Don’t worry, it’s nothing. This keeps happening to me lately.”

Eleanore looked at her and asked, “Mind if I check your pulse?”

“Not at all, Annie replied.

Eleanore took Annie’s wrist and rested it on her own thigh, then asked, “Have you been feeling nauseous a lot lately?” Annie nodded. “Yeah, it’s been like this for a few days now. I have no appetite, I’m always tired, and I keep feeling dizzy.” Eleanore switched to Annie’s other hand to check her pulse again. “Has your period been late?” she asked.

Annie nodded again, then paused for a few seconds, her eyes widening in surprise. “Wait, you think I’m pregnant?” she said.

Sophia’s face lit up with excitement. “Annie, I’m pretty sure you are!” she replied.

Eleanore smiled and nodded. “That’s definitely the pulse that shows you’re expecting. Even though I’m trained in Western medicine, I’ve never gotten it wrong when it comes to reading pulses for pregnancy.”

Annie was so happy she could barely contain herself, and Sophia hugged her tightly. “Oh my god, this is awesome. I need to call Uncle Edward right now. No, wait, I should tell Julian first.”

Annie quickly grabbed Sophia’s arm. “Sophia, Julian’s swamped with work right now. Let’s wait till tonight. I’ll tell him myself.”

Sophia was practically bouncing with joy. “Totally. Big news like this, you should be the one to tell Julian.”

Just then, May got a call from Ryan, asking her to step outside for a moment.

Sophia tagged along with Annie to the restroom.

That left Charlotte and Eleanore alone in the booth, and an awkward silence settled between them.

Eleanore broke the silence first, “I heard you’re engaged to the Hayes family’s eldest son?”

Charlotte just nodded in response.

Eleanore said casually, “Well, congratulations.”

Charlotte shot her a look. “Thanks.”

Then, out of nowhere, Charlotte blurted out, “If only you’d listened to me back then. Senior Rivers was never any good. Honestly, you and Derrick are way better together.”

Eleanore’s temper flared. She said, “Charlotte, I’ve told you a million times, there was never anything between Rivers and me. But you accepted his gifts behind my back, then turned around and told me not to get involved with him.”

She added, “What was that supposed to mean? Were you worried I’d steal him from you, so you talked trash about him to me on purpose?”

Charlotte was absolutely furious. That day, she’d actually refused Rivers’ gifts and even told him off, making it clear he ,should stay away from both her and Eleanore. ‘How could Eleanore twist it into me accepting his gifts?’ she thought.

Just as she was about to say something, a deep voice sounded from behind them.

“Eleanore, wasn’t I your first love? Who’s this Rivers guy?” Derrick’s voice was low and dangerous. Eleanore turned around and saw Derrick’s face, which was darker than a thundercloud.

Charlotte and Eleanore both shot to their feet. Eleanore hurried over, trying to explain, “Derrick, it’s not what you think. Please, just let me explain.”
