He looked up at the shameless pair by his bedside, the woman wearing his daughter’s face. He was so furious he coughed up blood, but the attendant barely reacted, like they’d seen it all before.

June looped her arm through Mason’s and stood up. “Mason, he’s pretty much done for. Let’s step back. No need to catch whatever he’s got. Being around someone about to kick the bucket… Just bad vibes.”

The reason Mason was so into this woman was simple. She was way more obedient than Minnie. Looking at her face now, he felt even more satisfied.

Mason flashed a creepy grin, leaning in to whisper in her ear, “Whatever you say, I’m yours.”

June gave the attendant a meaningful look, and not long after, she watched as the attendant walked over and gave William an injection.

Mason took June out of the room. Fifteen minutes later, the news that Almere’s real estate king had died in the private hospital blew up online, and June was now the one and only heir to the Jefferson Group.

Easton caught the news all the way from M Country, and right then, Derrick hit him up with a call.

“So, what’s your take on all this?” Derrick asked.

Easton snuffed out his cigarette. “June and Mason have gotten engaged. Everyone in our circle knows about that forever. Now William’s dead and June’s the only heir. Almere’s basically their playground.

“Digging into June’s background is gonna be a nightmare. But honestly, the tougher it is to find anything, the more it reeks of something shady. June’s last trip overseas lines up exactly with the last time Stella was spotted in Haverton.

“The timing’s just too perfect. There’s gotta be something they’re hiding. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if June was actually the missing Stella.”

Derrick was totally on the same page.

“So, what are you planning to do now?” he asked..

Easton got up and strolled over to the window. He explained, “Mason and his crew keep things in the down-low, always working in the shadows, but no matter how careful they are, everyone slips up sooner or later.”

He continued, “We’re not just gonna sit back and wait for them to mess up. Dexter’s already making moves behind the scenes. Nobody has a clue what’s really going on between him and me. Everyone in Jenston thinks Dexter and I are just business partners.”

He added, “And even Mason buys it. They think I got played, but the truth is, I jumped in with my eyes wide open. If you want the tiger’s cub, you gotta step into the tiger’s den.”

Derrick snorted, “Easton, I seriously need to reevaluate you. Lucky for me, my sister Sophia is the apple of your eye. If I ever ended up on your bad side, I’d probably be six feet under before I even knew what happened. Just ask Frank.”

“There’s something else I need to ask you. Was Virginia involved in Allison’s death?” Derrick asked.

Easton gave a cold, curt “Yes.”

“So Virginia getting hauled off by the cops, and her illegitimate daughter Samantha getting exposed for sleeping her way to the top last night… Was all that your doing?” Derrick pressed.

Easton’s voice was low and icy, “Of course. They’re not Cambul citizens, and they didn’t break any laws here. If I’d made a move to Cambul, she’d have had the perfect chance to turn the tables on me.”.

He added, “But once they’re back in Haverton, that’s a whole different story. Sure, Vivian’s got some pull, but making a comeback after this? That’s gonna be a real uphill battle.”

Derrick paused for a moment, then said, “I’m worried she might do something crazy and join forces with Mason. You’d better watch your back.”

“Yeah, I know. While I’m not in Jenston, I’m counting on you to keep an eye on Sophia,” Easton replied.

Derrick smiled. “Of course, you don’t even have to ask. I’ve got her covered.”
