541 Chapter 541
541.Chapter 541
Jenston was always chilly, but today, a cold, misty drizzle made the air feel even sharper, dropping the temperature by several degrees.
As I reached the entrance of Crestview Group, I saw Charlotte stepping out of Dexter’s car.
“Hey Sophia, morning!” Dexter called out.
Sophia nodded to Dexter, then glanced at Charlotte and broke into a smile.
“Charlotte, you and Dexter seem pretty close. He’s chauffeuring you around rain or shine,” she teased, grinning.
Charlotte hooked her arm through Sophia’s and hurried them into the building. “You think I asked for this? Dexter shows up at my door every single morning, waits for me downstairs after work, and even pops by on weekends.
“I seriously think he’s the idlest CEO in the world. He never stays late, skips all the online meetings, and avoids any social events.”
She added, “It’s like he couldn’t care less about the Hayes Group. And when Jackson calls, he always talks to him like he’s annoyed.
“Honestly, whenever I’m with him, the only person he actually shows any respect to is Easton. If Easton calls, Dexter never ignores it.”
Sophia listened to Charlotte’s rant all the way from the entrance to the elevator, barely able to hold back her laughter. “Charlotte, except for Easton, the only person Dexter ever treats kindly is you,” Sophia teased.
Charlotte instantly clammed up.
She didn’t deny it.
Not only was he sweet, but he was super attentive, too.
Sophia patted her hand encouragingly. “Take your time with him. As you get to know Dexter, you’ll see what makes him special.”
With that, Sophia headed back to her office. Charlotte sat down at her desk, booted up her computer, and zoned out for a while, lost in thought.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a message: [Wanna grab lunch together?]
It was from Eleanore.
Charlotte replied: [Sure, let’s meet at that restaurant near your hospital. No need for you to come all the way here. You’re a lifesaver. I wouldn’t want to hold you up.]
Sophia sent: [Okay.]
When lunchtime rolled around, Charlotte hopped in a cab and headed to the restaurant near Remony Medical Center. Eleanore was already there waiting for her.
“Sorry I kept you waiting,” Charlotte said.
Eleanore had already ordered her a glass of orange juice. “Come on, when have I not been the one waiting for you? It’s honestly the first time you’ve ever been this polite to me.”
Charlotte grinned, “How long has it been since we last grabbed a meal together?”
“Over three years. After we had that falling out right after graduation, I went off to Japoria for my master’s,” Eleanore said.
Charlotte nodded. “Wow, it’s really been that long.”
Neither of them held onto those old grudges anymore. It was just some petty drama when they were younger. Back then, nobody wanted to back down. Now that they’d grown up, looking back, they both realized how immature they’d been. “Charlotte, actually, during my second year of grad school, right after my breakup, I tripped to Windmere. I happened to spot you near the island resort area, but you seemed to be with someone you were close to, so I didn’t say hi,” Eleanore said.
,Charlotte looked up, puzzled. “Was that the day there was a shooting at the island resort?” she asked.
Eleanore nodded. “Yeah, that’s the one. It was pretty scary. I’d just seen you when chaos broke out and shots were fired. I was really worried and wanted to run over and get you out of there, but in a split second, you were gone.”
She added, “Then the police rushed in to take control, and not long after, I saw you and your friend make it out safely. Once I knew you were okay, I finally felt relieved enough to leave.”
Something suddenly came to mind for Charlotte as Eleanore spoke.

“Eleanore, I just remembered something urgent I needed to handle, so I have to run. I’ll call you tonight. By the way, the person you saw that day wasn’t my friend, just someone I knew. Honestly, nobody could ever replace you for me,” Charlotte said.
Eleanore smiled. “Okay, I know. Take care on your way, we’ll catch up tonight.”
As soon as Charlotte left the restaurant, she called Dexter. “Dexter, you’ve got half an hour. Get over here, now.”
