543 Chapter 543
543.Chapter 543
At Crestview Group.
“Emily, this report is wrong. Didn’t I tell you to fix this part? Why is it still not done? Take it back and rewrite it. I want it on my desk before you start work this afternoon,” Sophia said, her tone sharp.
Emily walked out of Sophia’s office, clutching the report. Charlotte hurried over and asked, “What happened? Sophia hardly ever loses her temper.”
Emily was just as puzzled. Not only did Sophia rarely get angry, but Emily herself almost never made mistakes in her reports. She’d already gone over this one with Sophia three times. ‘How could there still be an error?’ she thought. Charlotte tried to comfort her, “She’s been swamped with work from both Japoria and Jenston lately, so she’s probably just a bit on edge. Easton’s been overseas dealing with some tough projects, and she’s worried about him. Let’s just cut her some slack.”
Emily glanced back at the office door and nodded. “Maybe I should brew her some cocoa later to help cool her down. When we had dinner a few days ago, she kept complaining about her insomnia.”
Charlotte nodded. “You go ahead and do your thing. I’ll make the drink for her.”
“Sure,” Easton said with a smile.
Charlotte knocked on the door and walked in, carrying a cup of hot cocoa. She saw Sophia slumped in her office chair, eyes closed, looking completely worn out.
Charlotte said, “Hey, what’s going on with you these past couple of days? I’ve known you forever, and I’ve never seen you snap at people like this. Did something happen?”
Sophia slowly opened her eyes, frowning a little. “Nothing really happened, but lately, I just get annoyed at everything and just can’t control myself. I end up snapping at people for no reason.”
She rubbed her temples. She added, “Maybe it’s just that I haven’t been sleeping well, and work’s been piling up. Rothea Designs picked up a bunch of new projects, and I can’t seem to get any inspiration. I just feel all jittery and irritable lately.” Charlotte placed the cup in front of her. “Emily asked me to make this for you. Seriously, don’t worry about earlier. She didn’t take your words to heart. She’s just really worried about you.”
Sophia took a sip from the cup. “I know. Thanks.”
After chatting about work for a while, Charlotte grabbed her files and left the office.
Sophia picked up her phone and called Easton. “Are you still up?” she asked.
It was already ten at night in Menolia, and Easton had just gotten back to his apartment. “No, I had a work dinner tonight. Just got home.”
“Easton…” Sophia hesitated, her words trailing off.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” Easton’s deep, magnetic voice came through the phone.
Sophia took a deep breath. “It’s nothing. I just wanted to make sure you didn’t drink too much tonight.”
“Just the usual business stuff, nothing wild,” Easton replied.
Sophia felt her irritation flare up again. “Alright, good. Got a meeting now, I’ll call you later tonight.”
Before Easton could get another word in, Sophia hung up on him.
Sophia tossed her phone aside, her mind spinning. ‘When is Easton ever going to finish things over there? He’s been gone for ages, and tonight he didn’t even call me first. Maybe he’s with someone, so he can’t reach out?’ she thought.
She’d meant to ask him about work, but all she could think about was why he hadn’t called her the moment he was done with his business dinner.
She was getting all suspicious, and that just wasn’t her at all.
Sophia patted her cheeks. ‘I must be going crazy from all this work. How could I even start doubting Easton?’ she thought.
Her mind couldn’t even process work anymore. She just really wanted to go home and get some rest.
Before lunchtime even rolled around, Sophia asked Julian for the day off and headed straight back to Silvermoon Bay.
After a quick shower and freshening up, she flopped onto her bed. But she just couldn’t settle.
