550 Chapter 550
550.Chapter 550
The massage chair’s timer suddenly went off, jolting Sophia awake. She wiped her forehead, set down her tablet, and went to wash her face in the master bathroom.
She muttered to herself, “Easton said he’s working late. Stop overthinking it.”
She stepped out of the bathroom, still feeling a bit out of it. She pulled her phone from her pocket, feeling the urge to call Easton.
But then she remembered he was in an international meeting, and reminded herself not to bother him.
Sophia wrapped herself in a coat and wandered through the garden. The cold wind bit at her face, but it couldn’t chase away the heaviness left behind by her nightmares.
Instead, her mood only sank deeper. Step by step, she drifted toward the back garden.
In the rear of Silvermoon Bay, there was a sprawling swimming pool. Easton made it a habit to swim a few laps in the heated water every morning.
Sophia stood at the edge of the pool, her mind haunted by those dreams she couldn’t shake off.
The more she dwelt on them, the worse she felt. Her chest tightened, just like that night, and she struggled to breathe.
Sophia crouched by the pool, watching the water shimmer. She reached out and stirred the surface. The water was warm, but the cold wind cut through her, making her feel even colder inside.
Suddenly, a voice echoed in her mind: “Sophia, the water in the pool is so warm. If you jump in, you won’t feel cold anymore.
“Sophia, doesn’t the water feel so warm? Just jump in and let yourself sink to the bottom. Let the warmth wrap around you.”
Before she knew it, Sophia had actually jumped into the pool. But the moment she hit the water, she snapped back to reality.
She thought, ‘What just happened? Why did I jump into the pool for no reason at all?’
Just as she realized something was seriously wrong and tried to swim to the edge, the cold water shocked her muscles, causing a sudden cramp in her calf. The pain made it almost impossible to swim.
Sophia gritted her teeth, trying to push through the pain and make it to the edge. But the cramp was so intense that she found herself sinking, unable to fight it.
Luckily, a maid noticed Sophia had been out in the garden for a long time and hadn’t come back. She hurried out to look for
her.
The maid heard a disturbance coming from the pool in the back garden and spotted Sophia in the water. She immediately shouted for the other staff to come help.
At that moment, Easton had just gotten home. As soon as he got out of the car and heard the maid’s shouts, he rushed straight to the pool in the back garden.
Seeing Sophia struggling in the water, Easton didn’t hesitate. He jumped straight in and grabbed her, pulling her out as fast as he could.
“Sophia, wake up!” Easton called out, his voice full of worry.
Once he got Sophia out of the water, he immediately started CPR and mouth-to-mouth. Soon, she started coughing up
water.
As soon as Sophia opened her eyes, Easton scooped her up and rushed her inside.
“Sophia, what happened? How did you end up in the pool all of a sudden?” Easton asked, his voice full of worry.
Sophia was at a loss for words. She really didn’t know what to say to Easton. All she could remember was crouching by the pool. How she ended up in the water, she had absolutely no memory.
Easton helped Sophia change into dry clothes and made her some ginger tea. Once she was asleep, he went to his study to ‘check the security footage from the back garden.
The footage clearly showed Sophia crouched by the pool, with tear stains at the corners of her eyes. Just seconds later, she jumped in herself.
Easton stared at the screen in shock, his heart racing. He thought, ‘Does Sophia have suicidal tendencies?’
