Charlotte was quick to act. As soon as she left Silvermoon Bay, she jumped right into getting ready for Almere.

Mason was caught off guard when Charlotte called. He asked, “Grandpa Arthur wants to come see June?”

Charlotte answered calmly, “Yeah. He heard William passed away, and he knows you and Miss Jefferson are getting engaged next month. Our house in Almere was finished last year, so he wants to take a look.

“He wants you to ask Miss Jefferson out for dinner so everyone can get together.”

Mason replied, “Let me talk to June first. When are you guys getting to Almere?”

“We’ve got tickets for the day after tomorrow. No need to pick us up. We’ll head straight to the new house after we land. Just drop by when you’re free,” Charlotte said.

Charlotte and Mason had always kept their distance. If she suddenly acted too friendly, he’d definitely get suspicious.

“Okay,” Mason replied.

Right after Charlotte ended her call with Mason, Dexter’s car rolled up.

Dexter got out and took Charlotte’s hand. He said, “Didn’t I tell you to wait for me at the office? Why are you out here at the gate already? Your hands are freezing.”

Charlotte smiled and said, “It’s fine. I just needed to make a call, and I didn’t want anyone at the office to

overhear.”

Dexter narrowed his eyes as he asked, “Who were you calling? What’s the big secret?”

Charlotte knew he’d start overthinking. She replied, “Just my cousin, Mason.”

Dexter opened the passenger door for Charlotte and carefully buckled her seatbelt.

Once he got in, he asked, puzzled, “Weren’t you and Mason never really close? What made you call him all of a sudden?”

Charlotte wasn’t sure if she should tell Dexter about all this. Even though she knew Dexter and Easton were close, Sophia had made it clear she couldn’t tell anyone else about it yet.

So Charlotte just told Dexter she was taking her grandpa to Almere the day after tomorrow to check out the new house.

Dexter got it. But when he heard Charlotte was heading to Almere, that meant she might run into June. He couldn’t help but worry. After all, he’d been working with Easton for years and knew all about the drama going on around him lately.

Dexter said, “Mason might be your cousin, but you know what kind of person he is. And June’s not exactly easy to deal with either. If you’re going to that family dinner, just make sure you keep your guard up around her, alright?”

Charlotte nodded and said, “Got it.”

Dexter gazed at his girl with warmth, reaching out to ruffle her hair. He teased, “Why didn’t you invite me along? If it’s a family dinner, I’m your fiancé, shouldn’t I be there?”

Charlotte turned to him and shot back, “Are you sure you’ve got time for me?”

Dexter chuckled softly. He said, “Goofball, you never even asked. How would you know I’m busy?”

Charlotte smiled and replied, “I just thought you were buried in work at Hayes Group, and I didn’t want to bother you with this, so I didn’t ask.”

Dexter squeezed her hand and said, “Nothing at Hayes Group matters more than being with you.”

Dexter’s sweet words came out of nowhere, making Charlotte’s face flush instantly.

Seeing her get all shy, Dexter felt the urge to mess with her a little, but he restrained himself, worried he might

freak her out.
