87.Chapter 87
Noticing Sophia wasn’t annoyed, Annie relaxed. “It’s not his fault, really. My dance team moved up our rehearsals, so I had to book the flight at the last minute.”
Sophia raised an eyebrow, joking, “Annie, you guys aren’t even married yet and you’re already taking his side?
Annie chuckled softly. “Of course. Somebody has to stick up for him.”
Sophia left the bag of daily essentials at the hotel front desk, asking them to have it sent up to Annie’s room. And then she and Annie headed to the restaurant, following Easton’s lead.
“Sophia, why don’t you spend the night with me? The hotel’s got a massive hot spring. I might have to sneak off for rehearsal later, but you can treat yourself to a soak or maybe a spa.
“Later, we can crash in the same room and just talk all night,” Annie said, her tone friendly and inviting.
Sophia put some food on Annie’s plate and nodded with a smile. “Yeah, I’d love that.”
“Easton, what about you? Got any plans for tonight?” Annie asked.
‘Wait, is Annie actually planning to invite him to the hot spring with us?’ Sophia thought, a bit caught off guard. Her hand froze in mid-air, her fork hovering as she was stunned for a couple of seconds.
“I’ve got a client meeting at the club downstairs,” Easton replied. He glanced over at Sophia after answering. noticing how she immediately relaxed. That usual icy look of his softened just a touch, the hint of a smile flickering across his face.
Annie nodded.
As dinner was winding down, Annie’s phone suddenly rang. She picked it up and stood. “Sorry, Julian’s calling. I’ll step aside to take this.”
Sophia couldn’t help but smile. Watching Annie walk away, Sophia admired how classy and gentle she was- always soft-spoken and polite. With someone like her, Julian was gonna fall head over heels before long.
Sophia turned her head and instantly met Easton’s gaze. For a split second, their eyes locked, and the atmosphere got seriously awkward between them. After all these years, this was actually the first time it was just Sophia and Easton, sitting at the same table.
Sophia quickly broke eye contact, composed herself, and got up. She walked over to Annie, speaking softly,” Annie, I’ll go up to your room and wait for you.”
Annie nodded.
That evening, Sophia found herself a bit bored in the hotel room. Remembering how Annie had mentioned the hot springs and spa downstairs, she gave the front desk a quick call.
It wasn’t long before a staff member brought over a swimsuit and bathrobe for her.
After getting changed, Sophia made her way down to the hot springs.
She tested the water with her toe and slowly eased herself in. It was her first time at this place. She hadn’t been back to Jenston in years, and now the city had way more resorts and vacation hotels than she remembered.
Sophia rested her arms on the edge of the hot spring, gazing around at the modern design. Letting her thoughts wander, she imagined what kind of tourist retreat the southern project might turn into if Crestview landed the proposal.
Lost in her daydream, she soon drifted off to sleep.
As the warm water lulled her, Sophia’s body went limp. Before she knew it, she had slipped beneath the surface, completely unaware. Jolted awake by the sudden rush of cold, she tried to move, only to realize her leg was seized by a sharp cramp.
Panic kicking in, she grabbed frantically for the nearest stone edge, forcing herself toward the steps to get out. But just as she thought she was safe, her foot lost its grip and she tumbled straight back into the water.
