96 Chapter 96
96.Chapter 96
After that night, Sophia told Emily to take a long break and only come back to work when she felt better.
But Emily had been calling Sophia every day, offering to work from home and asking Sophia to send her
emails.
A week had gone by, and the case was still under investigation, but there were still no new leads.
Nicolas really left no trace at all, but Sophia and May were sure that no matter how airtight things looked, there was always something that slipped through the cracks.
Sophia had come to the Maritime Authority for a meeting today, accompanied by a male assistant. After the meeting, her assistant said he’d grab the car from the parking lot and asked her to wait at the entrance.
Just then, Easton showed up at the Maritime Authority. As he stepped out of his car, he happened to bump into Sophia.
Sophia shot him a cool glance, and Easton made his way over to her.
“I just called Julian. About your secretary…” Easton said.
Sophia said, “Mr. Foster, I appreciate the concern, but my secretary’s situation isn’t your business. If you’ve got so much free time, maybe focus on your own woman, and her family.”
With that, Sophia walked past him, but Easton grabbed her arm.
He said, “Sophia, I told you before, Stella and I aren’t what you think.”
“Whatever’s going on between you and her, I don’t need an explanation,” Sophia said, pulling her arm away. “Then why are you angry?” Easton’s voice was low.
Sophia stayed silent for a while and then said, “It’s not about you and Stella. I just can’t wrap my head around why you always put so much faith in her.”
She thought, ‘But you never believed in me’
She kept that part to herself.
Easton said, “Sophia, Stella chose to trust her family. She didn’t do anything wrong. With the evidence the police have, there’s just no way to put the blame on Nicolas.”
Sophia looked up and sneered. “The evidence? For all we know, Nicolas and his people could’ve set it up just to mess with the police. I know my secretary didn’t lie. We may not have enough proof for now, but we’re definitely not backing down.”
Easton took in Sophia’s indifferent, almost frosty demeanor. He realized that anything he said at this point would be pointless, and would probably just make her think he was going out of his way to protect Stella’s family.
When Sophia saw that Easton was silent and her assistant had pulled up with the car, she didn’t hesitate. She turned on her heel and left.
Feeling frustrated, Easton pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit one.
Gordon walked over to him. “Mr. Foster, the meeting’s about to start. Let’s head up:
Easton nodded,
As they reached the elevator, Easton stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray on the trash can.
His voice was low and commanding. “Put a team on Nicolas. If anything suspicious pops up, report to me immediately.”
Gordon nodded. “Yes, sir.”
“Also, get someone to re-investigate that highway accident Sophia and Stella were in,” Easton ordered. With that, Easton stepped into the elevator.

96 Chapter 96
After leaving the Maritime Authority, Sophia didn’t head back to the office. Instead, she had her assistant drive. her to Emily’s apartment. May had come over as well.
“I thought you might be busy, so I figured I’d drop by and check on Emily myself,” May said.
Sophia gave a gentle smile, looping her arm through May’s. “Yeah, I just wrapped up work. It’s been days since I saw her. We talk on the phone all the time, but nothing beats seeing her in person. Makes me feel a lot more
at ease.”
May nodded. When they got to Emily’s place, they rang the doorbell, and this time, Emily answered right away.
