But as soon as they stepped inside, they saw Emily had drawn every curtain, leaving no fresh air or sunlight. The whole place was pitch black.

Sophia and May shared a glance before turning to Emily.

Sophia spoke softly, “Emily, what’s up with keeping the curtains closed and lights shut?”

Sophia put her arm around Emily’s shoulders and led her over to the couch, while May headed over and flicked the switches of the lights by the door.

“Don’t turn on the lights… I can see, really, just don’t…” Emily said.

She hugged the blanket to her chest, her head almost disappearing into the folds.

Sophia motioned for May to switch on just a small lamp instead. As Emily started to calm down, Sophia and May sat down beside her.

“Emily, what’s wrong?” May asked softly.

Emily shook her head.

Sophia gently took her hand. “Don’t be scared. Just take your time and tell us.”

Emily slowly lifted her head, looking at Sophia and May, her voice quivering. “I think I’ve started remembering bits and pieces these past few days, but I’m not really sure. I’m worried those scenes might just be hallucinations caused by the drugs they gave me.”

May comforted her, “You saw Nicolas and that other man’s faces clearly when it happened, right? That means you were already starting to shake off the effects. Who knows, those images could actually be what leads us to the truth.”

Sophia added softly, “That’s right, Emily. Just sort through what you remember and share it with us.”

Emily nodded, shut her eyes for a moment, and spoke, her voice trembling. “That night, I was barely conscious. When I opened my eyes, the first thing that came into focus was Nicolas’s face.

“But when he saw me, he totally froze for a few seconds, looking really stunned. I was so scared that I just started to fight back.”

Sophia figured that must’ve been when Nicolas realized his guys had kidnapped the wrong target.

Emily continued, “He completely lost it and slapped me hard across the face, again and again. Then he tore off every bit of my clothing… But suddenly, he paused like something hit him, and went around switching on every light in the room.

“I was barely conscious and he hit me several times, so my head was spinning. All of a sudden, the harsh bedside spotlight was glaring right at me. It stung my eyes so much that I could barely keep them open.

“I heard him fumbling around with something, and there was a quick beep. Then suddenly he was pressing down on me.”

As Emily spoke, her voice started trembling badly, and both Sophia and May hugged her tight, trying to calm her shaking.

Emily continued, “It hurt so much. I tried to fight back, but I was completely out of strength. I barely lasted before everything went dark. When I finally came to, I realized there was another man in the room.”

Sophia asked, a bit confused, “So, you’re saying he switched on all the lights in the room?”

Emily nodded. “Yeah, the spotlights in that hotel suite were super intense. It was so harsh that I could barely handle it at first.”

May took a few steps and asked, “Were your eyes closed the whole time? After he turned the lights on, did you ever try to open them-maybe just a little?”

Emily was silent for a moment before suddenly remembering. “I think I did, but everything was so fuzzy. I

May and Sophia exchanged a look, the realization striking them both as they spoke at the same time, “A

camera.”
