Chapter 102 The Shadow King’s Mood

“I bet he’s in love. Look at that face–he looks exactly like my wife when she’s picked a fight with me over nothing. Haha.”

One of the braver directors couldn’t help but crack a joke.

Xavier squinted at Sebastian before leaning toward Felix Vance. “Felix, you think he’s actually seeing someone?”

Felix leaned back in his chair, watching Sebastian like a scientist studying a volatile element.

“Sebastian just got ghosted.”

Xavier, not being up on modern dating slang, looked confused. “Ghosted? Like a haunting?”

“It means he got stood up, Xavier. Look at his face–it’s like thunder. Either a girl dumped him or someone just stole his fortune.”

No one was brave enough to steal from Sebastian Sterling. That left only one option: a girl had dumped the King of Kingsley.

Xavier thought back to seeing Sebastian and Amelia together at the restaurant and felt a chill.

Did Amelia actually dump Sebastian?

Is that girl insane?

In the middle of the suffocating tension, Sebastian suddenly stood up and headed for the door. “Keep talking. I have an emergency.”

“Wait, what?!” Xavier’s eyes nearly popped out.

Sebastian had never walked out mid–meeting. This was the second time in a month.

Felix looked like he knew exactly what was going on. “See? He’s going to go beg his girlfriend. You guys better stay on your toes. If he doesn’t fix things with her, our heads are on the chopping block tomorrow.”

Xavier looked like he wanted to cry.

Sebastian was terrifying on a good day. If he was having relationship drama, they’d all need to triple their life insurance policies.

The moment Sebastian left the building, he told the driver to floor it toward the Bennett estate.

It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Amelia. He just wasn’t taking any chances. If anything happened to her, he’d burn the city down.

Back at the estate, a humiliated Sophia burst through the front door and threw herself into Eudora’s arms, sobbing

“Mom! Everyone at school saw me! I couldn’t even finish the exam–I turned in a blank page! What am I going to do?”

Eudora was trying to soothe her when the maids nearby started whispering.

“Ugh, what is that smell? Did someone step in something?”

After checking their own shoes, one of the bolder maids stepped up to Sophia. “Miss Sophia… did you get something on your shoes? Let me get you a fresh pair.”

Eudora caught the scent too–a foul, unmistakable stench. She noticed some brown smears on Sophia’s collar.

She suddenly remembered Amelia saying Sophia was ‘eating dirt‘ at school. Did her precious daughter actually eat… that?

Sophia’s face went black. She screamed at the maid, “You blind idiot! Are you saying I smell bad?”

The maid turned white, bowing repeatedly. “I’m sorry, Miss! I didn’t mean it like that!”

The memory of the students taking photos and laughing at school came flooding back. Sophia slapped the maid across the face. “You brat! How dare you laugh at me!”

The maid fell to the floor, begging for mercy.

William came down the stairs just in time to see the chaos. “What the hell is going on here?”

The shout brought Sophia back to her senses. Realizing she’d just dropped her ‘sweet girl‘ act, she immediately burst into tears.

“Amelia set me up at school. She humiliated me and made sure I was too upset to finish my exams. She even made the driver leave me behind! I’m so miserable, Dad!”

“Amelia has gone too far!”

Lucas marched in from the garden, his teeth gritted as he walked over to Sophia. “Don’t cry, Soph. I’ll drag her down here right now and make her apologize.”

“Stop right there!” Julian walked out of the kitchen with two trays, his brow furrowed. “You believe everything Sophia says? Do you even have a brain, Lucas?”

“Julian, Sophia has always been a good girl. Why would she lie? Why are you always taking Amelia’s side?”

“Because Amelia is actually our sister!”

“Enough!”

As they argued, William’s veins were bulging in his neck. He roared at them before turning to the butler. “Go upstairs and get that girl down here. Now.”
