Sophia’s reputation was officially in the gutter. She couldn’t even walk down the hall without people laughing, so she called Lucas to come and drag her home.
Meanwhile, back in Fabian’s office, Sebastian was leaning back on the sofa, radiating raw power.
Fabian and Ronald were standing there, both of them drenched in sweat.
The table was covered in high–end takeout. Amelia was digging in like she hadn’t eaten in days, while Sebastian watched her with total adoration, occasionally handing her a napkin.
“Slow down. No one’s going to take it from you.”
Ronald, desperate to save his job, dropped to his knees. “Amelia, let me peel those shrimp for you.”
Amelia acted shocked. “Oh, Dean Miller! I couldn’t possibly have the Dean peeling my shrimp.”
“It’s an honor! Truly! I love peeling shrimp!”
Ronald’s smile was more of a grimace. He’d scrub toilets if it meant Sebastian Sterling wouldn’t fire him.
Amelia giggled and kept eating.
Once the tension eased a bit, Fabian whispered to Sebastian, “Mr. Sterling… about today’s… incident…”
Sebastian glanced at him and took a file from Ryan. He flipped through it, his expression getting darker with every page.
“The school’s ‘off–book‘ income is impressive. More than some of my subsidiaries.”
Fabian nearly burst into tears. “Mr. Sterling! I’ll wire all of it to the Sterling Group! Please, have mercy!”
I’m greedy, sure, but I’m not a criminal!
Then, a muffled voice came from the table. “Why would Sebastian want your dirty money? You’re a Principal. Your job is to help kids. That money should go to scholarships.”
Amelia had thrown him a lifeline, and Fabian jumped on it before she could change her mind.
“Yes! Exactly! Amelia is a genius! I’ll set up a student foundation immediately! We’ll double the financial aid for underprivileged kids!”
Fabian moved fast, desperate to keep his title. He launched the foundation within the hour.
When the dust settled, Sebastian had to leave for some business, and Amelia was officially the most popular girl on campus.
As evening rolled around, Amelia’s phone buzzed.
She saw the name and picked up instantly. “Afternoon, Sebastian.”

“Look to your left,” the voice replied, deep and smooth.

Amelia looked over. A black Bentley was idling around the corner. She blinked. He actually came to pick me up?
Once she was in the car, she asked, “I thought you were busy today?”
Sebastian was leaning back in his black silk shirt, the top buttons undone to reveal his collarbones. He looked like he’d been trying to catch a nap.
“Finished early. I figured I’d drop by and visit your parents.”
“Wait, what?”
Amelia stared at him. Is he serious?
“Visiting my family?”
Sebastian hadn’t stepped foot in the Bennett estate once in her past life. He’d clearly thought they were beneath him.
And yet here he was.
Sebastian opened one eye and looked at her, a mischievous glint in his gaze. “We’re getting engaged, aren’t we? I should probably meet my future in–laws.”
Amelia smirked. She knew exactly what he was doing.
She’d ruined Sophia at school today. When she got home, the Bennetts would be waiting to tear her apart.
Sebastian was going there to be her shield.
The Bennett house was dead quiet. Everyone was in the living room, surrounded by a squad of hulking bodyguards in suits.
Sophia was wailing in Eudora’s arms.
