She knew the truth: Vanessa had ordered Patricia to buy the poison. Now that they’d been caught, Patricia was throwing herself under the bus to save her son’s future–and Vanessa’s neck.
Sebastian saw it too. He didn’t say a word.
Someone was taking the fall. Vanessa would walk away clean.
He stood, buttoning his suit jacket. “Alfred, take her to the police.”
The guards hauled a still–begging Patricia out the door.
Vanessa let out a shaky breath, as she’d just dodged a bullet.
As Sebastian reached the doorway, he glanced back at Amelia, his voice suddenly soft. “Staying at the old house tonight?”
She shook her head quickly. “I’ve got somewhere I need to be.”
The Bennetts hadn’t seen her all day. If she didn’t show up soon, they’d lose their minds—and she wasn’t about to miss the fireworks she had planned for them.
He caught the mischievous sparkle in her eyes and knew exactly what she was up to.
Before stepping out, Sebastian slipped off his glasses. His sharp, deep–set eyes locked onto hers. He looked down at the girl, a head shorter than him, voice low and gentle.
“If anything goes wrong, call me. Immediately.”
Amelia blinked. Without the glasses, Sebastian went from polished aristocrat to straight–up heart–stopping bad boy. The man was ridiculously good–looking–flawless skin, killer jawline. She couldn’t help herself.
She reached up and pinched his cheek.
So soft. So bouncy. Nicer than most girls‘ skin.
“Feels good?” he asked, one eyebrow raised, half–smiling
“Uh–huh. Really good,” she answered without thinking.
Then she met his amused eyes and yanked her hand back, mortified.
Sebastian caught her wrist and pressed her palm back to his face,
“Anytime you want to touch,” he said quietly, “you can.”
Amelia froze.
Why was he suddenly so… flirty the second the glasses came
She stared at him, brows furrowed. “Sebastian… why are you so good to me?”
She remembered the first time she’d met him in her past life. He’d been kind then–offering her candy, trying to get close. But everyone had warned her to stay away, and his presence had scared her so badly she’d cried. After that, she’d avoided him like the plague

Only now did she realize how stupid that had been. She walked away from a man who clearly loved her this much.
Sebastian looked straight into her eyes.
“Because you’re my fiancée,” he said. “Who else am I supposed to be good to?”
Amelia’s heart fluttered.
Wow… that actually touched her.
Sebastian was the second man in her life who’d ever been genuinely good to her–the first being Victor.
Her palm felt burning hot and a little sweaty. Embarrassed, she pulled her hand back. “I should head back to Riverview Estates. Grandma’s stable for now. I’ll come do her physical therapy tomorrow.”
Before he could answer, she spun around and practically sprinted out the front door, diving straight into her car.
Sebastian watched her bolt, a tiny smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. The second she disappeared, he slid his glasses back on, and his face turned ice–cold again–untouchable.
Alfred, who’d been standing a respectful distance away, stepped forward with a sigh. “Sebastian, sir… maybe dial it back a notch? You’re gonna scare the poor girl off again.”
He remembered all the times Sebastian had tried to get close to Amelia in the past–only to send her running in terror.
Sebastian frowned. “Mind your own business.”
Inside, though, he was a storm. Ever since his rebirth, he wanted to keep Amelia glued to his side every single second. But he forced himself to hold back the crazy possessiveness. He needed her to shine, to grow on her own.
He’d already been holding back a lot just now.
Right outside the Sterling gates, a Rolls–Royce cut her off.
Julian stepped out, face like thunder, flanked by bodyguards.
“Amelia,” he growled, “you can get in the car like a good girl… or I’ll make you.”
He looked like he wanted to wring her neck right there.
He’d just finished a court case and was heading to the Sterling dinner when Sophia called, sobbing her heart out. Amelia, that vicious little witch, had gotten Sophia ruined by Matthew. Now, Matthew’s wife had shown up at the hospital with bodyguards and reporters,
Since this mess started because of Sophia, it was going to end because of her,
Amelia knew the Bennetts would never let her off the hook.
