Chapter 196 Careful What You Wish For
Sophia cried until her eyes were totally bloodshot. She hugged Alexander’s legs for dear life, terrified that letting go meant being shipped off to the boonies.
Gavin suddenly smashed his wine glass. “What the f*ck are you crying for, you worthless brat?! The country ain’t great, but it’s where you belong! Soon as we get back, I’m setting you up with a man. Someone’s gonna pay top dollar for you!”
“No, I don’t wanna… I won’t go…”
The mere thought of those country hicks with their yellow teeth and foul breath, looking like absolute beggars, made Sophia gag.
“Alexander! Are you seriously gonna make Sophia live like that? She’s never even gotten her hands dirty!” Dylan was getting more pissed by the second. He stood up and roared at Gavin, “Try selling my sister, I f*cking dare you!”
Gavin, riding a heavy alcohol buzz, fearlessly stood up to argue right back.
“She’s my kid! I’ll sell her to whoever the hell I want! What’re you gonna do about it?”
“Believe it or not, I’ll have you locked up again!” Dylan was burning with rage. Years of being a refined gentleman went completely out the window thanks to this scumbag.
Gavin shrank back, muttering, “Your oldest brother is the one making her go back with me. It ain’t my fault.”
“Alexander, say something!” Dylan pleaded, turning back to his brother.
Alexander felt a massive headache coming on. He had just promised Amelia he’d protect her for life. Changing his tune now? Talk about a quick slap in the face.
“Amelia, do you think we should let Sophia stay?”
Ultimately, Alexander tossed the ball into Amelia’s court.
As long as Amelia said no, he’d pack Sophia and Gavin away, no matter how much it broke his heart.
But if Amelia said yes, a huge weight would be lifted off his chest.
Sophia’s face turned ashen. Alexander giving Amelia the final say was basically a death sentence for her,
That b*tch Amelia is probably dying to kick me out!

However, Amelia’s response completely caught her off guard.
“Staying here as a maid is still better than going back to the sticks, right?”

Sophia nodded almost reflexively. By the time she realized what she just agreed to, it was too late.
Amelia smiled sweetly at her. “Then play servant here at the Bennett estate. Let me experience what it’s like being waited on hand and foot. Sound good?”
“Amelia, wh–what do you mean…” Sophia stared blankly, taking forever to process the words.
“What do I mean?” Amelia’s eyes turned ice–cold as she scoffed. “I mean you’re gonna wait on me. Didn’t you just say you’d rather be a maid here than go back to the country? I’m granting your wish. Why aren’t you thanking me?”
Sophia’s heart sank. She glared venomously at Amelia’s beaming face.
I was just saying that for sympathy! I can’t believe this b*tch actually took it literally. So f*cking vicious!
“What, getting cold feet? Or do you wanna go back to…”
“I do! I’m willing to stay and serve you, Amelia!”
Sophia quickly cut her off, desperately grabbing her only chance to stay.
“Sophia grew up living a life of luxury, and you’re making her a servant?!” Dylan was absolutely furious.
Amelia gave everyone an innocent look. “She volunteered. You guys heard her. I didn’t force her.”
Sophia was still on her knees, her fingers digging so hard into her thighs. She gritted her teeth, swallowing her burning resentment. “Yes, I volunteered to be a maid. Dylan, please don’t…”
“Hold up, you’re a maid now. Why are you still calling him Dylan?” Amelia’s sugar–coated dagger almost broke Sophia’s pitiful victim act.
“Right. Mister Dylan, please don’t get mad at Miss Amelia because of me…”
“Get up. Peel my shrimp. Oh, and the hairy crabs too. I want those.”
Sophia was stunned. Are you kidding me? Ordering me around already?
Amelia had zero intention of playing nice. If she had free labor, she was damn well gonna use
