Having dealt with his younger siblings, Alexander finally looked up for Amelia, only to find the staircase empty. He sighed quietly to himself.

It looks like it will take more time to thaw out Amelia’s frozen heart.

By evening.

The atmosphere at the Bennett estate was incredibly eerie. The massive dining table was packed, but aside from Amelia, who was thoroughly enjoying her meal, only the newly freed Gavin and Gloria were eating happily.

Eudora sat in her chair, massaging her temples. Finally, unable to stomach Gavin and Gloria’s disgusting table manners any longer, she stood up. “I’m not feeling well. I’m going back to my room to rest. You all carry on.”

“Mom, let me help you upstairs,” Sophia immediately chimed in.

“Sit down.” Alexander’s stern command stopped Sophia dead in her tracks, leaving her hovering awkwardly halfway out of her chair.

“Alexander, I just want to help Mom upstairs. She’s not feeling well.” Sophia wanted to escape as fast as possible. She didn’t want to look at Gavin and Gloria’s repulsive faces for another second.

Every time she saw them, it felt like her true lineage was being paraded out for everyone to mock.

Alexander shot her a cold look. “We have plenty of maids. Why do you need to help her? Your biological parents are right here eating. How does it look if you don’t keep them company?”

Eudora just wanted to get out of there. “Your brother is right,” she told Sophia. “Stay and eat. Maggie can help me upstairs.”

Maggie carefully walked over and assisted Eudora up the stairs.

With William out for the evening, Alexander was the undisputed head of the household. No one dared to defy him.

Sophia had no choice but to sit back down in quiet resentment.

“Delicious! This is so damn good. I never knew the Bennetts ate like kings. I’m really living the high life thanks to my daughter!”

Gloria’s cheeks were stuffed to the brim as she mumbled her agreement. “Yeah, but it seems like this ungrateful brat of ours doesn’t really want us staying here. She’s got no heart.”

Alexander watched their vile table manners with a blank expression, even gesturing for the maids to pour them some red wine.

“So, you two. What are your plans for coming to the Bennett estate this time? Are you here to take Sophia back to the country?”

Hearing that Alexander was trying to kick her out, Sophia turned deathly pale. “Alexander, I don’t want to leave! I want to stay and fulfill my duties to Mom and Dad!”

“The Bennetts have plenty of children. Why do we need an outsider like you to play the dutiful daughter?”

Julian’s venomous sarcasm instantly brought tears to Sophia’s eyes. She sat there looking pitiful, wiping away her tears. “I know I became an outsider the second Amelia came back. But I grew up with you guys. If you make me leave, I’d rather just die.”

“You’re always talking about dying, but I haven’t seen you drop dead yet,” Lucas rolled his eyes.

Her three brothers weren’t just refusing to help; they kept calling her an outsider. Sophia felt like she’d been plunged into an icy abyss, looking to Dylan in an absolute panic.

“Dylan, since the others want me gone, what about you?”

Dylan didn’t dare defy Alexander’s orders, but Sophia was his favorite sister. He’d cherished her like a precious jewel growing up. Tossing her into some middle–of–nowhere boondocks would absolutely break his heart.

“Alexander, Sophia wouldn’t survive in a filthy place like the country. How could you bear to throw our little princess into a garbage dump?”

Alexander started to feel conflicted. After being reborn, all he had left for Sophia was rage and resentment. But they really had grown up together, and deep down, he still held onto the memories they shared.

Hearing Dylan say that actually put him in a tough spot.

What if, because of my rebirth, the Bennetts won’t repeat the same mistakes this time around? Maybe Sophia is just a little selfish, and won’t actually try to kill Amelia?
