“My mother is making a fool of herself and offending the Thornes just for her sake. It’s incredibly stupid. That’s why I’m apologizing to you, Mr. Thorne.”
The crowd was totally lost. One second Amelia’s not admitting fault, and the next she’s apologizing?
Harrison was even more intrigued by this girl who spoke with such sharp political tact. A faint smile actually appeared on his face. “You’ve got quite the silver tongue. You’re Amelia, right?”
Everyone froze. Harrison Thorne just smiled?!
He didn’t yell at Amelia at all–he actually smiled at her?! What the hell was going on?!
Sophia had never been exposed to political double–talk, so she had zero idea what they were actually saying.
Why is he about to explode a second ago, and now he’s smiling?!
Amelia literally just admitted she was wrong!
“Mr. Thorne, since my sister Amelia already admitted she was wrong, please don’t…”
“And who are you?” Seeing someone actually dare to interrupt him, Harrison’s brows furrowed, a flash of annoyance crossing his face.
“I… I’m the daughter of the Bennett family. I’m Sophia.” Thinking Harrison was interested in her too, Sophia eagerly introduced herself.
To her horror, Harrison poured a bucket of freezing, dirty water right over her head. “Oh, I heard you’re the foster daughter. Today’s entire mess started because of you, didn’t it?”
“I…” Sophia blanked. When did this become my fault?!
“Hmph!” Harrison scoffed, shooting a cold, sideways glare at William. “William, you sure raised a wonderful daughter. Actually daring to cause a scene at my 60th birthday!”
The second he said that, William’s knees buckled. Without even thinking, he dropped straight to the floor.
“M–Mr. Thorne, this has nothing to do with me! And it has nothing to do with Sophia either! Didn’t Amelia, that brat, just admit it was her fault?!”
“Bullsh*t!” Selena, hands on her hips in her fancy dress, yelled out. “Amelia was saying she’s apologizing for you! Do you have any shame at all?!”

“Huh?” William hadn’t caught the meaning either. He stared up at Harrison, totally bewildered.
Harrison already disliked him, and now he was completely fed up. “Get out of my sight. Leave.”
The Thornes kicking the Bennetts out was basically the entire city of Kingsley blacklisting them.
The crowd exchanged nervous glances, sighing quietly. Even business partners who usually worked with the Bennetts didn’t dare speak up for him.
“Mr. Thorne!”
Alexander shoved his way through the crowd on his crutch, with his two younger brothers right behind him. He bowed deeply to Harrison, his voice full of panic and respect. “Mr. Thorne, please, give us one more chance. My father is completely blind to the truth right now. That’s why he offended you.”
“Hmph!” Harrison scoffed again. “Alexander, I actually respect you as part of the younger generation. But it’s your own fault you have such an oblivious father. If the Bennetts go down, blame him.”
William still had no clue what they were talking about. He even asked, “Alexander, Mr. Thorne, what does that mean? I don’t even know what I did wrong!”
“Dad, shut the hell up!”
Alexander’s face went completely black. How did he end up with such a brain–dead father?! Offending the Thornes was one thing, but taking down the entire Bennett empire with him?!
William tried to say something else, but Alexander shot his assistant a sharp look. “Take my parents and Sophia outside.”
The assistant caught the drift instantly. He called over two bodyguards, and they hauled the completely clueless trio away.
Alexander hunched over, begging desperately. “Mr. Thorne, could you please give me a moment of your time in private?”
Harrison gave Alexander a blank look, then glanced at Amelia, who looked totally bored standing behind him. After a second of thought, he nodded. “Come to my study.”
Seeing Harrison yield, Alexander finally let out a massive sigh of relief. He turned to his brothers. “You two stay here with Amelia. I’m going to explain things to Mr. Thorne.”
Once Harrison left, the guests scattered like birds. Julian and Lucas stood on either side of Amelia like two bouncers, terrified some other petty idiot might try to mess with her.
