“How many times do I have to tell you? You don’t have Bennett blood in your veins. What gives you the right to act so arrogant in front of me?”

Amelia crossed her arms, staring calmly at the totally wrecked Sophia.

The women attending the Thorne party were all legitimate heirs; the concept of a “foster daughter” was practically unheard of here. Amelia’s words struck a chord with a lot of them.

Selena rushed over to back Amelia up. “You’re just a foster kid, what are you barking about?! Sit down and shut up, or I’ll have you thrown out!”

Sophia looked like she was going to be sick. The disgusted stares from the crowd felt like knives trying to peel her skin off, leaving her completely exposed and humiliated.

“Is this how the Thornes treat their guests?! You’re the only daughter of the Thorne family, how can you be so incredibly rude to your guests?!”

Eudora went all in for Sophia, completely forgetting where she was. She let the insults fly, her voice so loud it echoed through the entire estate.

Selena, Amelia’s ultimate hype woman, had been dying to cuss out the Bennetts and get revenge for her bestie. Now that she had the chance, there was no way she was backing down.

A powerful, booming voice echoed from the mansion. Everyone turned and saw the head of the Thorne family, Harrison Thorne, standing tall at the entrance, surrounded by a group of heavy–hitting politicians.

The moment they saw Harrison, everyone instinctively lowered their heads.

This political titan had just turned sixty, but the sheer, crushing authority radiating from him made everyone in the courtyard tense up. No one dared to look him in the eye.

“Dad, Sophia was the one causing a scene in our house! As the host, I was just correcting her behavior.”

Even Selena was terrified of her strict father. She ran over, pouting, hoping to act cute and get out of trouble.

Harrison wasn’t having it. Since Selena was his only child, he was incredibly strict with her and never played the “soft dad” card.

“You dare talk back? Go apologize to Mrs. Bennett right now!”

Harrison barked the order, making Selena flinch. “Dad…”

“Mr. Thorne, Selena didn’t do anything wrong. It’s my useless daughter’s fault for instigating this. Please don’t blame Selena.” William rushed out from the crowd, smiling apologetically, before turning to Amelia with a furious glare. “You brat! Get over here and apologize to Mr. Thorne right now!”

For once, Amelia actually walked over. Standing in front of Harrison, she tilted her delicate chin up and said, “Mr. Thorne, I don’t think I did anything wrong. And neither did Selena.”

Looking at the girl standing a full head shorter than him, wearing a simple, understated dress instead of a flashy couture gown, Harrison noticed her natural elegance. Even in such simple clothes, her breathtaking beauty made her shine brighter than anyone else.

“Oh? So, tell me, who do you think is in the wrong here?”

He had navigated the cutthroat world of politics for years, but this was the first time he found himself genuinely interested in a young girl.
