Chapter 23 Fake Kindness
Virtue?
She had just beaten people up like a street brawler. And she called that virtue?
Still… at least Amelia hadn’t hit her.
That alone was a relief.
Then Amelia glanced toward Brenda and gave her a disturbingly gentle smile.
Brenda’s face went pale instantly.
Like she had just seen a ghost.

“I’ve already been fired! Please don’t hit me!” she screamed, scrambling toward the exit and nearly tripping over herself as she ran.
Amelia watched her flee and shrugged.
Well. That problem was solved.
She turned to Lily and was just about to ask her to pack up the clothes.
But at that moment-
Someone stepped off the escalator.
Alexander.
He was accompanied by several men in sharp suits, clearly in the middle of some business outing.
Their eyes met across the store.
For a split second, Alexander froze.
Then his entire face lit up.
Before anyone could react, the dignified CEO completely abandoned his composure and hurried straight toward her.
“Amelia!”
His voice was full of excitement,
“I’m so happy to see you, Are you shopping for clothes?
He snapped his fingers immediately,
“Someone! Pack up everything in this store and send it to Amelia’s home.”
The way he looked at her was practically glowing.
Like a starving man staring at a mountain of food.

“Looks like I really should check the calendar before leaving the house,” she said coldly. “Otherwise, how do
I keep running into bad luck everywhere I go?”
For a moment, pain flashed across Alexander’s eyes.
But he didn’t retreat.
Instead, he pulled out a sleek black card and held it toward her with both hands.
“Amelia, if you don’t want to go back to the family house, that’s fine. I bought a villa for you. And here, there’s ten million on this card. Take it first. I’ll bring you to see the new house.”
His eyes were filled with hope.
The next second-
Smack.
Amelia slapped the card straight out of his hand.
It hit the floor with a sharp clatter.
Her voice was icy.
“Have you forgotten how all of you treated me before?”
Her eyes were filled with undisguised disgust.
“I will never forget it. Your fake kindness now only makes me sick.”
In her previous life…
From the moment she returned to the Bennett family until the day they killed her with their own hands-
Alexander had never once looked at her properly.
Forget care,
Forget concern.
He had treated her like she didn’t even exist.
And she would never forget the final moment before her death.
The knife Alexander plunged into her body,
Ruthless.
Merciless.
Even now, the memory burned,
Alexander’s chest tightened painfully, as if a blade had pierced straight through his heart and was twisting inside.

And honestly… he deserved it.
“Amelia,” he said hoarsely, “I won’t let anyone hurt you ever again. Just trust me one more time. Please.”
Amelia’s patience finally snapped.
“Get lost!”
Her shout echoed through the store.
At that moment, Sophia–who had been completely ignored the entire time–finally exploded with anger.
“Amelia, that’s too much! Alexander is being so good to you. How dare you tell him to get lost?”
She stepped forward, her voice full of indignation.
In the past, whenever she defended Alexander like this, he would immediately protect her.
But this time-
Alexander turned and looked at her with open disgust.
“You’re just an adopted daughter,” he said coldly. “What might do you have to yell at the Bennett family’s real daughter?”
Sophia froze.
Her face turned deathly pale.
Tears instantly welled up in her eyes and rolled down her cheeks.
“Alexander… what did I do wrong?” she sobbed pitifully. Why do you have such a problem with me?”
Her delicate crying would have shattered his heart before.
Now?
Alexander’s expression only darkened.
“Cry, cry, cry. That’s all you ever do,” he snapped impatiently. “Anyone watching would think the Bennett family has wronged you somehow,”
He frowned in irritation.
How did I never notice how annoying she is when she cries?
Sophia cried even harder.
Beside her, Brittany leaned closer and whispered in confusion.
“Sophia… hasn’t Alexander always treated you really well Why is he scolding you now?”

Without sparing them a second glance, she turned on her heel and walked back into the boutique as if nothing had happened.
Her confidence filled the entire room.
She pointed casually at the clothes she had picked out earlier.
“Lily,” Amelia said calmly, “you’re the new manager of the DN branch now. Please pack these for me and send them to this address.”
As she spoke, she grabbed a pen and wrote down an address in the notebook beside the counter.
Lily blinked in shock.
More confused than excited, she stammered, “Miss… I think you misunderstood. I’m just an intern. I’m not the store manager…”
Amelia didn’t bother explaining.
Instead, she waved her hand behind her.
“Michael.”
Michael immediately stepped forward with a friendly smile. He opened his tablet, tapped a few buttons, and nodded.
“Lily,” he said casually, “starting today, you are the official store manager of the DN branch.”
Then he chuckled.
“You should thank Amelia for that.”
Lily froze.
Her brain struggled to process what she had just heard.
An intern…
Promoted directly to store manager?
Was she dreaming?
Michael leaned closer and whispered, “Go on. Say thank you.”
Only then did Lily snap out of it. She immediately bowed deeply–almost ninety degrees.
“Thank you, Amelia! Thank you for giving me this opportunity!”
Amelia waved her hand lightly.

Not far away, Brittany’s face was still burning from the slap Amelia had given her earlier.
But now Alexander was here.
And suddenly a malicious thought crossed her mind.
If Alexander finds out Amelia is being kept by some rich old man… he’ll definitely be furious.
Brittany smirked and spoke loudly.
“Alexander, how could Amelia possibly know someone important at DN?” she sneered. “I heard she’s being kept by some rich guy. Aren’t you curious where she got the money to buy so many luxury clothes?”
She gestured toward the shopping pile.
“The cheapest item in DN costs over ten thousand dollars. The stuff she picked out today is worth at least three hundred thousand.”
Her voice dripped with mockery.
“She’s just a country bumpkin who came to Kingsley with no connections and no background. Where would she get that kind of money?”
Alexander’s expression darkened instantly.
He looked at Brittany as if she were something disgusting stuck to the bottom of his shoe.
“If you dare smear Amelia like that again,” he said coldly “I won’t hesitate to send you a lawyer’s letter.”
Brittany instantly realized she had stepped on a landmine.
Still unwilling to give up, she blurted out, “Alexander, didn’t you always care about Sophia the most? Why are you suddenly defending that bitch Amelia now?”
