Amelia got up at the crack of dawn, hopped a couple of buses, then walked a full hour to reach the Sterling family’s old mansion.

The place sat in the city’s most exclusive neighborhood mansions spaced a hundred yards apart, each one sprawling across thousands of square feet. Inside were grand front halls, private living quarters, a lotus pond, and a huge backyard garden that stretched up a hill. Amelia had visited once with the Bennett family, so she knew exactly where she was going.

The second she rang the bell, the butler, Alfred Whitaker, swung the door open with a warm smile. “Amelia, welcome! Please come in. Eleanor has been waiting for you.”

“You… know me?” Amelia blinked in surprise.

She’d only been here once–how did he remember her face?

Alfred’s smile never faltered. “You’re Sebastian’s fiancée. Everyone in the Sterling household knows who you

are.”

Amelia forced a polite smile.

The moment she stepped inside, she ran straight into the last person she wanted to see: Chloe Morgan,

Sebastian’s cousin.

Chloe spotted the beautiful girl at the door right away. Even in that plain white dress, Amelia’s skin glowed, her eyes sparkled like moonlight, and her figure was impossible not to envy.

Chloe had been trailing after Sebastian her whole life, secretly dreaming she’d one day become his wife. Seeing Amelia here today? No way she was letting that slide.

“Hey! You–country bumpkin! Stop right there!” Chloe barked.

Amelia rolled her eyes.

Wow, Alfred was right–every single person in this house knows exactly who I am.

“Chloe, Amelia is here to check on Eleanor,” Alfred said calmly, trying to steer her away. “She doesn’t have time to chat.”

But Chloe planted herself in their path, nose in the air, and sneered, “You’re seriously letting some backwoods girl who can barely read give Eleanor a check–up? Has everyone lost their minds?”

Alfred’s face tightened, but before he could answer, Amelia spoke up with a sweet smile. “Chloe, has anyone ever told you your breath smells like you skipped brushing this morning? And that outfit… girl, it’s giving rainbow explosion. I’d be embarrassed to be seen with you in public.”

Chloe’s signature look was loud colors and streaks of dyed hair–basically strutting around like a peacock in

heat.

“You actually dare to mock me?!” Chloe’s face turned purple.

Chapter 9 She’s a Little Busy

Not far away, three sleazy repairmen were already rubbing their hands together, grinning like idiots.

Tom stared at the photo on his phone, practically drooling. “This is the one, right? Damn, she’s a total stunner–what a score!” He chuckled to himself. “Man, thought it was just some random chick… this one’s a total smoke show!”

Amelia’s fighter instincts kicked into high gear. She cracked her knuckles and flashed her brightest, sweetest smile.

“Hey, boys–you’re finally here!”

The three creeps looked stunned for half a second, but their brains were already in their pants. Tom ripped off his shirt and lunged.

“C’mere, you little slut–been waiting for this!”

WHAM.

Before his grubby fingers even brushed her hair, Amelia’s heel slammed into his chest. He flew back like a sack of potatoes, hit the ground twitching, and passed out cold.

The other two spun around, eyes wide, only to eat a lightning–fast punch each. Lights out.

Amelia dusted off her hands, yanked her wine–red dress into a quick knot so she could move, and dragged all three into a dark corner.

She pulled Tom’s phone from his pocket, typed out a quick text to Sophia, and hit send.

Watching the message deliver, she grinned widely.

“Sophia… you wrote and directed this little show yourself. Now it’s time for you to star in it.”

Sophia was still fidgeting in her wheelchair, nerves on fire, when her phone buzzed. She shot a quick look around, then quietly rolled herself into the corner to read the message.

The second she saw it, a nasty, twisted smile crept across her face.

“Amelia… this time I’m ending you for good.”

She spun her chair and headed straight for the lounge, exactly like the text said.

If today played out right, Amelia would be finished–turned into the dirty little whore that everyone in Kingsley would spit on and gossip about for years.

Once that bitch was gone, Sophia would finally be the only Bennett daughter left… and the future Mrs. Sterling

Just picturing Sebastian’s handsome face made her cheeks burn, and her throat go dry with want.

Heart pounding with pure excitement, Sophia pushed open the lounge door–and a pair of rough hands grabbed her, yanking her inside before she could even scream.

Amelia strolled back into the banquet hall and ran straight into Alexander. His face looked like he’d just swallowed a mouthful of shit.

Eleanor laughed like a delighted kid. “Oh, you are just the cutest thing. I love you already.” Then she turned to Sebastian. “And you, young man–treat her right, or you’ll answer to me.”

Sebastian leaned against the window with his arms crossed, just giving a small nod. His eyes flicked to Amelia. “Time for the check–up.”

In his past life, Sebastian had always been a man of few words. But when he did speak, it was usually to ruin someone financially or send them to prison. He looked polished and refined in his glasses, but take them off, and he was a ruthless devil who made people tremble.

Amelia took the medical report from the family doctor, then pulled a set of silver acupuncture needles from her little bag. She started inserting them carefully into Eleanor’s key pressure points.

Sebastian stood motionless by the window, watching her through his lenses. His expression was unreadable -dark, intense, almost stormy.
