The staff’s constant gossiping started to grate on Amelia. “Natalie, could you take me to the office now?”

Natalie snapped out of her daze and offered a quick, apologetic smile.

“Of course. This way, please.”

They reached the heavy double doors of the executive suite. Natalie opened them but stayed in the hallway. “We can’t enter Mr. Sterling’s office. You go ahead, Miss.”

You re his secretary, and even you can’t go inside?” Amelia asked, curious about the boundary.

She wondered if Sebastian had some sort of dual personality–the Shadow King at work, and the doting

husband at home.

“I heard Lady Irene went to see you in high spirits but left in a fit of rage. What happened?”

Amelia laid out the whole “stolen dress” saga, and Shadow replied with a virtual thumbs–up.

“I told you Sophia was a snake, yet you kept protecting that family. Does waking up feel as good as I think it does?”

Amelia let out a bitter, silent laugh at the joke.

It wasn’t far from the truth. In her past life, she’d been murdered and tossed into the ocean like trash.

If Sebastian hadn’t pulled her from the depths, she would have been nothing but bones by now.
