But Sophia kept her mask of concern in place. “Piper, don’t be too angry. I’ll make sure she leaves right
now.”
“Amelia, just go! Save yourself the embarrassment!”
If you stay, the Harringtons will toss you out like a stray dog!
Amelia crossed her arms, looking at the four girls with a cold, steady gaze. “Piper, is it common for Harringtons to insult guests without cause?”
“Guest? You aren’t a guest!” Piper snapped at the staff. “Secure her and toss her into the street!”
“I dare you to try!”
A booming, authoritative voice rang out from the staircase.
Edward Harrington descended, leaning on Robert’s arm, his face darkened with fury as he glared at his granddaughter.
‘Good morning, Master Edward.” Amelia offered a polite, graceful bow.
Robert let out a gasp of surprise. “Oh! It’s actually you, Miss Bennett! I was wondering who the mystery specialist was. I’m relieved it’s you.”
Amelia looked up, seeing Robert’s fawning smile, and let out a chuckle.
“Dr. Walker? So you’re the one overseeing Master Edward’s care? I was wondering why his progress was so stagnant; now I know.”
The remark was a direct hit to Robert’s pride, but knowing the power behind Amelia, he simply laughed it off.
“You’re too much, Miss Bennett! Now that you’re here, I can officially hand Edward over to your superior
care.”
Sophia’s brain was short–circuiting. She immediately tried to smear her sister. “Master Edward, my sister is a high–school dropout. Letting her treat you is a death sentence.”
Edward didn’t even look at Sophia. He turned to Piper and roared, “Piper! Didn’t I tell you that everyone in the Bennett family is trash except for Amelia? Why can’t you listen for once?”
Sophia had assumed Edward’s previous insults were just a temporary mood; she hadn’t expected him to be this blatant in public
Resentment burned in her chest as she glared at Amelia.
It’s all her fault. If she hadn’t poisoned the old man’s mind, he would still love me!
“Grandpa! She’s just a peasant scammer! Why are you listening to a fraud?!” Piper shrieked.

“Shut up!” Edward barked. “Is this how I raised you? Apologize to Amelia right now!”
“Grandpa! I didn’t do anything wrong!”
Piper was convinced she was the one being reasonable and Amelia was the manipulator.

Edward’s lungs seized, and he began to cough violently. “I said… apologize! Or I’m cutting your cards and you can find your own place to live.”
“Grandpa!”
Piper stomped her foot, but she knew her grandfather’s stubborn streak. She looked to the other three for
support.
But the Three Musketeers had their heads down, suddenly finding their own shoes fascinating.
Piper shot them a look of pure venom. “You guys are useless!”
She was furious, but she wasn’t about to sacrifice her lifestyle. Without the Harrington name and her allowance, she was nothing.
Piper walked up to Amelia, her teeth gritted so hard they nearly cracked. “I’m sorry.”
“I’m sorry, Miss Piper, did you say something? I couldn’t hear you.” Amelia smirked.
“You-!”
“Piper, louder. Apologize properly.” Edward’s face remained stern.
Piper bit her lip and glared at Amelia, her voice rising to a shout. “I’m sorry!”
Amelia reached out and patted Piper’s head like she was a golden retriever. “Good girl. Admitting a mistake
is the first step. Just try not to be such an easy target for manipulation next time.”
