“Maybe.” I said,

We continued searching until almost midnight and eventually I had written down every missing page could find.

There were twelve missing pages across the four journals. Twelve. I stared at the number.

“That’s a lot.” I said and Jace nodded.

“And someone has been taking them over time.” He said.

“Which means this started before the trophy.” I said.

“Probably.” He said as I looked toward him.

“Then the trophy was just a distraction.” I said.

“Or a warning.” He said and I sighed.

“I don’t know which is worse.” I said.

Jace reached across the desk and took my hand.

“Whatever it is, we’re going to protect what remains.” He said and I nodded.

“How?” I asked as he glanced toward the journals.

“We lock them up.” He said.

“Where?” I asked.

“The clubhouse vault.” He said and I hesitated.

“The vault?” I asked.

“It’s the safest place we have.” He said as I looked at the journals again.

“Would anyone else have access?” I asked.

“Only a few people.” He said.

“Who?” I asked and Jace listed the names so I listened carefully.

“And you trust all of them?” I asked.

“I do.” He said.

I thought about Uncle Will’s warning that someone inside the club couldn’t be trusted.

“What if one of them is involved?” I asked as Jace’s expression changed.

“Then we find out.” He said making me look down.

don’t want these journals becoming a reason for someone to hurt anyone.” I said.

“They won’t.” He said.

“How can you know?” Lasked:

“Because we’ll secure them before anyone gets another chance.” He said and I nodded.

“Okay.” I said.

We gathered the journals carefully and placed them inside a reinforced case.

I checked each one twice before closing the lid. Then we walked through the quiet garage toward the clubhouse.

The night air was cool and the town was almost completely silent so I stayed close to Jace as we walked.

“You okay?” He asked.

“I’m thinking.” I said.

“About?” He asked.

“Uncle Will.” I said.

“I keep wondering what he knew.” I added and Jace glanced at me.

“Maybe these pages will tell us.” He said.

“I hope so.” I said.

We reached the clubhouse, and Jace unlocked the main entrance. Inside, everything was quiet.

We walked toward the back hallway where the vault was located.

Jace entered the security code, and the heavy door opened.

The vault was small but secure, with thick walls and shelves designed to protect important documents and valuables and I placed the journals inside as Jace locked the case.

“There.” Jace said as I exhaled.

“That feels better.” I said as he wrapped an arm around me.

“It should.” He said as I looked back at the vault.

“Do you think they’ll come after them?” I asked.

“If they know where they are, maybe.” He said.

“That’s not reassuring.” I said.

“It’s honest.” He said and I nodded.

“Fair enough.” I said.

We locked the vault and returned to the main room and for the first time all night, I felt like we had taken control of something.

The journals were safe. At least for now.

Across town, Victor sat in his office when a man walked through the door carrying a small envelope.

“I found something.” The man said and Victor looked up.

“What?” Victor asked.

The man placed the envelope on the desk and Victor opened it slowly.

Inside was an old photograph and his expression changed the moment he saw it.

The photograph showed a much younger Uncle Will standing beside several motorcycles and Victor lifted it closer.
