CHAPTER 113-1

Jace’s POV

The barbecue had ended less than an hour earlier when Sarah’s call changed everything.

I was still standing beneath the patio with Paige when my phone rang again, and this time, Sarah’s voice sounded more serious than it had during her first call.

“Jace, I need you at the station.” She said.

“What’s happened?” I asked.

“A shipment disappeared.” She said.

“What shipment?” I asked.

“I’ll explain when you get here.” She said and she ended the call before I could ask anything else. So I looked at Paige.

“That doesn’t sound good.” I said and she nodded.

“Do you want me to come?” Paige asked but I shook my head.

“Stay here.” I said and she frowned.

“Jace.” She said.

“I don’t know what we’re walking into.” I said and she reached for my hand.

“Then call me.” She said.

“I will.” I said and I kissed her before heading toward my bike.

Derek followed me, and we rode through town without talking.

The streets were mostly empty, and the evening sun was beginning to disappear behind the buildings.

When we reached the station, Sarah was waiting near the entrance and she looked at both of us.

“Thanks for coming.” She said.

“What happened?” I asked.

She led us into a private room, where photographs and reports had already been spread across a table.

“A shipment of illegal firearms was intercepted last night.” She said as I looked at the photographs.

“Intercepted by who?” I asked.

“We don’t know.” She said as Derek leaned over the table.

“Where was the shipment going?” Derek asked and Sarah looked at me.

“The Black Reapers.” She said so I stared at her.

Victor’s shipment?” I asked

“Yes. She said and Derek whistled quietly.

“That’s going to go well.” Derek said but Sarah ignored himn.

“The transport vehicle was supposed to deliver the shipment outside town, but it never arrived.” She said.

“How did you find it?” I asked.

“The driver was found abandoned on a rural road. She said as I studied the photographs.

“Was anyone hurt?” I asked.

“No.” She said.

“Was the driver robbed?” I asked.

“Not exactly.” She said as Sarah pointed toward another photograph.

“The vehicle was left intact, but the cargo was gone.” She said.

“That doesn’t make sense.” I said.

“It gets stranger.” She said as she showed us another photograph.

“There were multiple tire tracks around the vehicle.” She added and Derek studied them.

“How many?” Derek asked.

“At least three different vehicles.” She said and I looked at Sarah.

“Black Reapers?” I asked.

“No.” She said.

“How do you know?” I asked.

“The transport team has already identified the motorcycles and trucks used during the interception, and none match known Iron Vipers vehicles.” She said and I felt my jaw tighten.

“We know that we didn’t do it. So somebody else took the weapons.” I said.

“That’s what we’re assuming.” She said and Derek looked at me.

“And Victor thinks we did it.” Derek said as Sarah nodded.

“He already sent word that he considers the Iron Vipers responsible.” She said as I shook my head.

“We didn’t touch the shipment.” I said.

“I know.” She said and her answer came quickly which caught my attention.

“You believe us?” I asked.

“I believe there is no evidence connecting your club to the theft.” She said and Derek folded his arms.
