CHAPTER 115-1

Charlotte’s POV

I checked my reflection in the mirror one last time before leaving the house, because I wanted to look confident and I didn’t want anyone to see how nervous i actually was.

I adjusted my blouse, fixed my hair, and picked up my handbag.

Mom had been acting differently lately. Ever since she had started meeting Paige, she had stopped accepting everything I told her without question, and that made me uncomfortable.

I couldn’t let her keep digging. I needed money, I needed information, and most importantly, I needed someone who could help me without asking too many questions.

The man I was meeting had contacted me through someone I trusted, although I had never actually met him before.

I knew almost nothing about him. I didn’t know where he lived. I didn’t know who he worked for. I didn’t even know his real name.

I knew only that he had money, connections, and a reason to be interested in Lawson Customs.

That was enough for me.

I drove across town and parked outside an expensive restaurant in the downtown district, because he had chosen the location, and I had no intention of questioning it.

Inside, the restaurant was quiet and polished, with dark wooden tables, soft lighting, and waiters dressed in black shirts.

I immediately felt underdressed and then I saw him.

He was sitting alone near the back of the restaurant, and he looked nothing like the men I was used to seeing around the Black Reapers.

He wore a tailored navy suit, a crisp white shirt, and an expensive watch that caught the light whenever he moved his hand.

He looked like a businessman. Not a criminal and that made me trust him more.

He stood when I approached.

“Charlotte?” He asked.

“Yes.” I said and he smiled.

“Please, sit.” He said so I took the chair opposite him.

“You’re the one who contacted me?” I asked.

“I am.” He said as he motioned toward the waiter.

“Would you like something to drink?” He asked.

CHAPTER 15.

“No, thank you.” I said and he nodded

“Then we can get straight to business.” He said as I studied him.

“What do you want? Lasked and he smiled.

“Information.” He said.

“About Paige?” I asked.

“Among others.” She said.

“Why?” I asked as he leaned back.

“You don’t need to know why.” He said.

That should have bothered me. Instead, I found it reassuring..

If he didn’t care about my reasons, I didn’t need to explain them.

“And what do I get?” I asked.

“Money.” He said and he said it so casually that I almost laughed.

“How much?” I asked as he slid an envelope across the table.

I opened it and my eyes widened. There was more money inside than I had expected.

“That’s just for the first piece of information.” He said as I looked up.

“What information?” I asked.

“Anything you know about Lawson Customs.” He said and I stared at him.

“The garage?” I asked.

“Yes.” He said.

“What do you want to know?” I asked.

“Who owns it?” He asked.

“Paige.” I said.

“Who works there?” He asked and I hesitated for a moment.

“Mia and Ben.” I said.

“Anyone else?” He said.

“Sometimes members of the Iron Vipers.” I said and his expression barely changed.

“How often?” He asked.

“I don’t know.” I said and he watched me carefully.
