“We already know.” Jace said.

“No, you don’t.” She said as she looked around the garage.

“He isn’t just trying to hurt the Iron Vipers.” She added and I felt my chest tighten.

“What does he want?” I asked.

“He wants control.” She said.

“Control of what?” I asked.

“Everything.” She said as Charlotte rubbed her hands together nervously.

about Travis.

“Like Travis?” I asked as Charlotte’s face went pale.

“You know about him?” She asked.

“We know he was murdered.” I said and she looked toward the floor.

“I didn’t know he would kill him.” She said.

“Why were you working with him?” Jace asked.

“I wanted revenge. I wanted Paige to lose everything because I was angry, and Victor made it sound like he could help me.” She said as her voice cracked and I stared at her.

“And now?” I asked.

“Now I know what he really is.” She said and I shook my head.

“You don’t get to walk in here and ask me to save you because you finally realized the man you partnered with is dangerous.” I said and Charlotte’s eyes filled with frustration.

“I’m trying to warn you.” She said.

“And I’m supposed to trust you?” I asked.

“No. I’m asking you to believe that I’m scared.” She said.

I looked at her and for a moment, I almost did. There was genuine fear in her expression, and her hands were shaking slightly.

But fear didn’t erase everything she’d done.

“You need to leave.” I said and her face fell.

“Yes.” I said and Charlotte looked toward the door.

“I can’t.” She said.

“Then I can’t help you.” I said and her expression hardened.

“So that’s it?” She asked and I nodded.

“I can’t trust you.” I said.

“I came here because I thought you might understand.” She said.

“I understand that you made a choice.” I said as Charlotte’s eyes narrowed.

“And you think you’re better than me?” She asked.

“No. I think I made different choices.” I said and she looked hurt, then angry.

“Fine.” She said as she turned toward the door.

“You’ll regret this.” She added as Jace stepped forward.

“Is that a threat?” Jace asked and Charlotte stopped.

“No. It’s a warning.” She said as she looked back at me and then she walked out.

The garage remained silent for several seconds and Mia finally spoke.

“She looked terrified.” Mia said and I nodded.

“She did.” I said.

“Do you think she was telling the truth?” Mia asked as I looked through the front window.

Charlotte was standing beside her car, looking around before getting inside.

“I don’t know.” I said as Derek-folded his arms.

“That’s probably the problem.” Derek said as Jace came closer.

“You did the right thing.” He said and I looked at him.

“What if she really is in danger?” I asked.

“Then she needs to go to the police.” He said.

“But she said they won’t protect her.” I said.

“They might if she gives them something useful.” He said and I nodded.

“She knows something.” I said.

“Probably.” He said as I looked at the road.

“Do you think Victor will find out she came here?” I asked and Jace’s expression darkened.

“Yes.” He said.

Charlotte had just walked into Lawson Customs, and there was no way Victor wouldn’t eventually learn

about it.

Across town, Victor stood inside the Black Reapers clubhouse when one of his men approached.

“Victor.” The man said making him look up.

“What?” Victor asked.

“We have a problem.” He said and Victor’s expression remained cold.

“What happened?” Victor asked.

“Charlotte.” The man said.

“What about her?” Victor said.

“She left the house this morning.” He said.

“Where did she go?” Victor asked as the man hesitated.

“Lawson Customs.” He said and Victor went completely still.

“You’re sure?” Victor asked.

“Yes.” The man said.

“When?” Victor asked.

“About an hour ago.” The man said and Victor slowly put down the glass in his hand.
