CHAPTER 127-2

Another said:

BIG GARAGE, BIGGER DREAMS

I laughed when I saw it.

“Who made that one?” I asked and a little boy raised his hand proudly.

“I did.” He said.

“It’s perfect.” I said and he smiled.

By lunchtime, everyone gathered outside. Food covered several folding tables, and people sat wherever they could find room.

I looked around at the crowd while holding a plate in my hands.

The Iron Vipers were there. Their wives were there. Their children were there. My employees were there.

People who had become friends were there.

Nobody had been asked to come. Nobody had been paid to help. They had simply shown up.

“Can I say something?” I asked as the conversations quieted and I looked at Emma first.

“Thank you for bringing all this food.” I started as she smiled and then I looked at Sophia.

“Thank you for helping keep everyone fed.” I continue and she nodded before I looked at Derek.

“Thank you for spending your day moving construction debris when you could have been doing anything else.” I said and he smiled.

“Mason, thank you for pretending you know what you’re doing.” I added and everyone laughed as Mason shook his head.

“I actually do.” Mason said.

“Ben, thank you for taking on more responsibility at the garage, because I know it’s been a huge adjustment and Ethan, thank you for handling the security while everyone else is distracted.” I continued.

“Always.” He said and I looked toward Jace.

“And you.” I said as he smiled.

“What about me?” He asked.

“Thank you for believing in me when I wasn’t sure I could do this.” I said and his expression softened.

“You never had to doubt yourself.” He said.

“I did.” I said and he stood and walked toward me.

“You don’t anymore.” He said as I smiled.

“No, I don’t.” I said.

Everyone applauded, and Maughed through the tears threatening to fall.

After lunch, we went back to work and the afternoon disappeared quickly, because there was always another task waiting.

By five, the first section of the new workshop had been cleared, and I could finally see the shape of what we were building.

I stood inside the empty space while the others packed away equipment and Jace walked over.

“Pretty impressive.” He said as I nodded.

“It feels strange.” I said.

“Why?” He asked.

“Because this place used to be empty.” I said as I looked around.

“Now it’s going to be part of my life.” I added and he smiled.

“Your life is changing.” He said.

“Yeah.” I said.

“Good.” He said as I leaned against him.

“I’m tired.” I said.

“You’re allowed.” He said.

“I think I earned it.” I said.

“You definitely did.” He said.

We finished for the evening just before sunset. Everyone said their goodbyes, and the families headed home.

I stood outside the workshop and watched the last motorcycle disappear down the road and then I looked

at Jace.

“I can’t believe everyone came.” I said.

“They care about you.” He said and I smiled.

“I care about them too.” I said.

We locked up and headed home to the apartment.

That night, I showered, changed into comfortable clothes, and fell asleep almost immediately.

The next morning, I went back downstairs to Lawson Customs expecting another busy day. Instead, I stopped dead when I saw the construction site.

CHAPTER 127

Стан

The excavator had been vandalized. Its side panels were covered in deep scratches, one of the windows was smashed, and several hydraulic lines had been deliberately damaged.

The portable generator had also been destroyed, while construction materials had been scattered across the ground and I slowly walked forward.

“What the hell happened?” I asked as Ben came running from the garage.

“I don’t know.” He said as Mia followed him.
