Summary for Chapter 242: Ride With Me (Paige and Jace)

Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 242

CHAPTER 139-1

Paige’s POV

The day had been long, but it had been a good kind of long, because Lawson Customs had stayed busy from the moment we opened until the last customer collected his motorcycle.

The new workshop was already proving that the expansion had been worth every sleepless night, and I had spent most of the afternoon moving between both buildings while Mia handled the office and Ben supervised the younger mechanics.

By closing time, my feet were aching, my hands smelled faintly of engine oil, and I was ready for a shower and a quiet evening.

I shut down the final lift and walked through the workshop, checking everything twice.

“Lights off.” I called and Ben appeared from the other side of the garage.

“Already checked.” He said.

“Doors?” I asked.

“Locked.” He said.

“Security?” I asked.

“Armed.” He said and I smiled.

“You’ve become very responsible.” I said and he laughed.

“I’m trying to impress the boss.” He said.

“You already do.” I said as he grabbed his jacket.

“See you tomorrow.” He said.

“Drive safely.” I said.

Once Ben left, I walked into the office and found Mia finishing the last paperwork.

“You’re still here?” I asked as she looked at me.

“I could ask you the same thing.” She said.

“I’m the owner.” I said.

“And I’m the person who keeps the owner organized.” She said.

“Fair point.” I said as she closed the folder.

“Everything is done.” She said.

“Good.” I said as Mia grabbed her bag.

Are you going straight to the clubhouse?” She asked.

Eventually.” I said as she raised an eyebrow.

“Don’t tell me you’re going to stay here working.” She said.

“I’m not.” I said.

“Because Jace will send someone looking for you.” She said and I laughed.

“Probably.” I said as she walked toward the door.

“Goodnight, Paige.” She said.

“Goodnight.” I said.

I waited until she drove away, and then I locked the office.

The silence inside the garage felt strange after another busy day.

I walked through the new workshop first, because I wanted to make sure everything was secure, and then I stepped into Uncle Will’s original garage.

I paused beside his old workbench. The familiar smell of oil and metal still filled the room, and despite everything that had happened, standing there still gave me a strange sense of peace.

“Goodnight, Uncle Will.” I whispered.

I turned off the final light and locked the door and Diesel was waiting near the stairs that led toward the living quarters, because he’d learned that closing time usually meant food and attention.

“Come on, boy.” I said and he followed me toward the exit.

I had barely taken three steps when he stopped. His ears went forward and his body stiffened.

“Diesel?” I asked and he stared toward the front windows.

Then he started barking. Not his usual excited barking. This was different.

It was sharp, aggressive, and relentless.

“What is it?” I asked as he moved toward the door.

Then headlights suddenly swept across the parking lot.

A car came around the corner too quickly, and the tires screeched as the vehicle swung into the yard and I jumped back.

“What’s happening?” I asked.

The car slammed to a stop and the driver’s door flew open. Charlotte stumbled out and for a second, I didn’t recognize her.

Her hair was disheveled, her face was wet with tears, and she looked absolutely terrified.

“Paige!” She yelled.

Charlotte ran toward me.

“Please!” She begged.

She nearly fell, because her legs seemed barely capable of carrying her so I caught her arm.

“Charlotte?” I asked.

“Help me.” She said and I stared at her.
