Summary for Chapter 271: Ride With Me (Paige and Jace)

Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 271

CHAPTER 155-1

Jace’s POV

The Black Reapers had become too quiet.

That was the first thing I noticed when Derek returned from checking the old compound outside town, because he usually came back with something useful, even if that something was nothing more than a vehicle count or a new face near the gates.

This time, he walked into the clubhouse, dropped his keys onto the table, and shook his head.

“Nothing.” Derek said and I looked up from the coffee in front of me.

“Nothing?” I asked.

“Almost nothing.” He said and Mason frowned.

“What does that mean?” Mason asked.

“It means the place is still there, but it feels abandoned.” Derek said and I leaned back in my chair.

“How many people?” I asked.

“Six, maybe seven.” Derek said.

“That’s all?” I asked.

“That is all I could confirm.” He said.

Derek pulled out his phone and opened several photos. The compound normally had motorcycles coming and going, men moving around outside, vehicles parked near the buildings, and enough activity to make it obvious that Victor Kane had people working for him.

Now the property looked almost dead. No motorcycles were parked outside. The main building had only a few lights visible through the windows and the gate was closed.

Nobody appeared to be working in the yard.

“It doesn’t make sense.” Mason said.

“It doesn’t.” Derek agreed as I stared at the photographs.

Victor had never been a man who enjoyed sitting still, and he certainly wasn’t someone who disappeared without leaving instructions behind.

“Have you tried contacting Damien?” I asked and Derek nodded.

“He won’t answer.” Derek said and I frowned.

“Not answering you?” I asked.

“Not answering anyone.” Derek said.

That bothered me.

Damien had always been difficult, but he was predictable enough. He wanted power, money, and Victor’s approval, and he had spent years standing close enough to Victor to benefit from all three.

If Victor had disappeared, Damien should have been scrambling to take control. Instead, he had gone

silent too.

“Try him again.” I said.

“I already did.” Derek said.

“Try once more.” I said.

Derek nodded, although his expression told me he expected the same result.

I stood and walked toward the clubhouse window.

The parking lot was busy, and several members were working on motorcycles near the garage. Everything around us looked normal, but the feeling in my chest said otherwise.

Victor had changed targets.

First, he had gone after Paige. Then he had started watching Charles. Now he had vanished.

There was a pattern somewhere, and I couldn’t see it yet.

My phone rang and I glanced at the screen.

Ethan.

“Tell me something good.” I answered.

“I can’t.” Ethan said and I sighed.

“That would have been nice for once.” I said.

“I’ve been going through the files we pulled from Uncle Will’s records.” Ethan said and my attention sharpened.

“And?” I asked.

“There are more references to the warehouse investigation than we originally thought.” Ethan said.

“What kind of references?” I asked.

“Names, payments, property records, and several photographs.” Ethan said.

“Do you know what they mean?” I asked.

“Not yet.” He answered and I looked toward Derek.

“Anything connected to Victor?” I asked.

“Not directly.” He said and that answer only made me more suspicious.
