Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 284
CHAPTER 161-1
Paige’s POV
The message on the garage door looked smaller in daylight, but somehow it felt more threatening because I could see exactly how little effort it had taken for someone to walk onto our property and leave it there.
YOU’RE NEXT.
Two words had been written across the fresh metal, and I stood staring at them while the morning traffic began moving along the road outside Lawson Customs.
Jace had already called Derek, and security was being handled, but I couldn’t let customers arrive to find those words staring back at them.
I grabbed a bucket, cleaning solution, and a stiff brush from inside the workshop and Mia followed me outside.
“You’re doing this yourself?” She asked.
“I am.” I said.
“Paige, we can wait for Derek.” She said.
“We don’t have time.” I said as she looked toward the road.
“What if whoever wrote it comes back?” She asked and I gave her a small smile.
“Then they’ll find a mechanic holding a brush.” I said
“That isn’t reassuring.” She said.
“It wasn’t supposed to be.” I said as I started scrubbing.
The black letters resisted at first, because whoever had written them had pressed hard enough to leave traces in the grooves of the metal. I kept working until the first letter began disappearing.
Mia stood beside me with her arms folded.
“You’re shaking.” She said as I stopped and I looked down at my hands.
She was right.
My fingers were trembling slightly, and I hadn’t even noticed.
“I guess I am.” I said.
“You don’t have to pretend you’re fine with me.” She said.
I leaned against the garage door and took a breath.
“I’m scared.” I said and Mia’s expression softened.

A young couple dropped off their bike for an engine repair.
The ordinary rhythm of the business slowly pushed the fear toward the back of my mind.
Around ten, the bell above the office doorrang and I looked up as George Miller walked inside.
