Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 340
CHAPTER 189-1
Sunday had become my favorite day of the week, and I had never expected that to happen.
For years, Sundays had meant catching up on paperwork, worrying about bills, planning repairs, and trying to figure out how I was going to keep Lawson-Customs running for another week. Now, things were
different, and I finally had people around me who could carry some of the weight.
I stood in the kitchen with a wooden spoon in my hand while Jace worked beside me, chopping vegetables for dinner.
“You are cutting those too big.” I told him.
Jace glanced down at the vegetables, then looked at me with an offended expression.
“They are vegetables, Paige, and I’m fairly certain they will survive being cut into slightly larger pieces.” He said.
“That’s not the point.” I said.
“Then what is the point?” He asked.
“The point is that I’m trying to make dinner properly, and you’re ruining my vegetables.” I said and Jace laughed as he reached for another piece.
“I thought we were cooking together.” He said.
“We are, but I’m supervising.” I said.
“That sounds suspiciously like you’re ordering me around.” He said as I smiled as I stirred the sauce.
“You’re dating me, so you should have expected that.” I said as Jace leaned closer and kissed my cheek.
“I knew exactly what I was getting into.” JHe said.
The kitchen filled with laughter, the smell of dinner, and the sounds of people talking throughout the clubhouse.
It felt ordinary. That was what made it so special.
The Iron Vipers clubhouse was busy that afternoon, but it was not busy because of an emergency, a threat, or some new problem waiting for us. It was busy because families had gathered together, children were running through the yard, and the adults were enjoying a rare afternoon without looking over their shoulders.
Several motorcycles were parked outside, but nobody was preparing to ride into trouble.
Nobody was checking weapons. Nobody was waiting for a phone call from Derek. Nobody was discussing Victor Kane.
For once, we were simply living.
I looked through the kitchen window and saw Diesel lying in the grass while three of the younger children tried to climb onto him.
CHAPTER 18+
Diesel tolerated them with the patience of a saint, although every few seconds he lifted his head and Tuoked toward the clubhouse as though he wanted someone to rescue him.
“He looks exhausted.” laughed and Jace glanced outside.
“He has chosen his life.” Jace said.
“He didn’t choose that life,” I said.
“He chose you, and you brought him into this family.” He said as I turned toward him.
“You’re comparing children climbing on him to dating me?” I asked.
“I’m saying Diesel has questionable decision-making skills.” He said and i lightly bumped my shoulder against his.
“You are lucky I love you.” I said.
“I am aware.” He said.
He smiled, and for a moment, I simply watched him.
Jace had changed since everything with Victor had begun.
Or maybe I had finally started seeing parts of him that had always been there.
He could be intimidating when he needed to be, and he could command a room with barely a word, but inside this clubhouse, around the people he loved, he was different.
He laughed more. He relaxed more. He let himself enjoy things.
I loved seeing that side of him.
“You’re staring.” He said.
“I’m allowed to stare.” I said and his smile widened.
