Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 349

CHAPTER 192-2

“Everything good?” She asked.

“Everything’s good.” I said.

The lie came easily.

For the next several hours, I worked normally, and Ben stayed nearby while Aiden moved between different jobs.

Paige spent most of the morning handling customers and checking invoices, while Mia kept the office organized.

Nothing happened. Nothing that I could use.

By early afternoon, Paige stepped into the office with a folder under her arm.

I noticed the door remained slightly open and I kept working, but I watched through the reflection in a nearby cabinet.

Paige placed the folder on her desk, then reached for another stack of paperwork.

A customer had apparently called about an old repair record, and she was searching through the files while talking quietly to Mia.

I needed to know what was inside those records. I needed to know whether the vault had anything to do with the old warehouse investigation.

More importantly, Victor expected me to find something and when Paige stepped out of the office to speak with a customer, I saw my opportunity.

I waited until Mia followed Paige toward the front counter, then slipped into the office.

My heart immediately began pounding. I knew I only had seconds so I moved toward the filing cabinet and scanned the folders, but there was nothing obvious.

I checked the desk. Nothing. So I opened a drawer and found invoices, receipts, and old business documents.

I started to close it, but then I noticed a small notebook beneath a stack of papers and I picked it up and opened the first page.

It contained handwritten notes about the business, suppliers, and several names I recognized from previous records.

I photographed a few pages with my phone, then placed the notebook exactly where I had found it.

I reached for another folder, but footsteps sounded outside and I froze.

Paige’s voice came closer and I quickly put the folder back, closed the drawer, and moved toward the door.

As I turned, my hand landed against the edge of Paige’s desk for balance and I heard Paige speaking with

a customer outside, and I waited until her footsteps moved away before slipping out.

treturned to my workstation and picked up a wrench, forcing myself to breathe normally.

Nobody looked at me and nobody said anything and I told myself I had gotten away with it.

What I didn’t realize was that my fingers had left faint prints along the smooth surface of Paige’s desk and across the drawer handle.

I had been so focused on avoiding attention that I had forgotten the smallest thing.

Evidence didn’t always announce itself and sometimes it simply waited.

The rest of the afternoon passed without incident.

Paige remained busy, Ben continued working, and Aiden helped him with a complicated repair.

him

I tried to settle my nerves, but Victor’s words kept replaying in my head and find out what is in that vault.

I needed answers. I needed them before Victor decided I was no longer useful.

Near closing time, Paige walked outside with Diesel, and the dog suddenly stopped.

His ears lifted and his eyes fixed on me so I smiled awkwardly.

“Hey, Diesel.” I said as the dog stared at me and Paige looked down.

“What is it?” Paige asked as Diesel gave a low growl and I shifted my weight.

“Maybe he doesn’t like me.” I said and Paige laughed softly.

“He has been strange lately.” She said.

Diesel took one step toward me and growled again.

I forced a smile, but something cold moved through my stomach and Paige reached down and touched

his collar.

“Come on, boy.” Paige said.

Diesel did not move as his eyes remained fixed on me.

Paige finally guided him toward the office, and I turned back to my work.
