Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 350
CHAPTER 193-1
Paige’s POV
Diesel had always been protective of me, but I had never seen him behave the way he did around Kyle.
The next morning, I watched from behind the counter as Diesel followed me into the workshop, and the moment he spotted Kyle hear the lift, his entire body stiffened.
His ears went forward, his attention locked onto Kyle, and a low growl rumbled from his chest and Kyle
looked over.
“Does he always do that?” Kyle asked and I frowned.
“No.” I said as Diesel growled again.
Kyle took one step backward, and Diesel immediately stepped closer to me.
“Diesel. What is wrong with you?” I said, keeping my voice calm and he looked at me, then back at Kyle and I crouched and rubbed his head.
“Good boy.” I said.
Diesel relaxed slightly, but he continued watching Kyle and Kyle gave me an uncomfortable smile.
“I think he just doesn’t like me.” He said.
“He has never acted like this with anyone else who works here.” I said as Kyle shrugged.
“Maybe he has decided I smell bad.” Kyle said.
I laughed because the explanation sounded ridiculous, but something about the situation still bothered
Diesel had always been friendly with customers, employees, and club members, and while he could become protective when something felt wrong, he didn’t randomly growl at people.
I looked at Kyle again and he seemed completely normal. That’s what made it difficult.
“Don’t take it personally.” I said.
“I’m trying not to.” He said and Diesel growled once more as Kyle looked at him.
“I think he has already made his decision.” He said and I smiled despite myself.
“He can be stubborn.” She said.
“So can I.” I said.
“I have noticed.” She said.
Kyle laughed, and the tension eased slightly.
Still, when I walked away, I glanced over my shoulder.
Diesel remained focused on Kyle. Something was wrong. I just didn’t know what.
By midmorning, the workshop became busy, and the strange moment with Diesel was pushed into the background.
Ben was working on a motorcycle near Aiden, and Kyle was helping another customer with a diagnostic issue.
Everything looked normal and that was becoming a phrase I didn’t trust as much as I used to.
After everything that had happened with Victor, I had learned that danger rarely arrived with a warning sign attached to it.
Sometimes it looked like a customer. Sometimes it looked like a friend. Sometimes it looked like someone standing in your workshop every day.
I shook the thought away because I didn’t want to become suspicious of everyone around me.
Kyle had passed his background checks. His references had been excellent. He had proven himself capable with the work, and Ben respected his knowledge.
There was no reason to accuse someone because my dog disliked him.
Still, I knew who could look into things without making it obvious.
Derek.
I waited until he stopped by the workshop later that afternoon, and I caught him near the side entrance.
“Can I ask you something?” I asked and he looked at me.
“Sure.” He said.
“I want you to quietly look into Kyle.” I said and Derek didn’t react immediately.
“Why?” He asked.
“Diesel hates him.” I said as Derek raised an eyebrow.
“That’s the reason?” He asked.
“It’s part of the reason.” I said as I lowered my voice.
“He has been acting strange around Kyle, and I know it sounds ridiculous, but Diesel has good instincts.” I added and Derek nodded slowly.
“You want a background check.” He asked.
“I want to know if there is anything we missed.” I said.
