“So what do you want to do?” Derek asked as I already knew the answer.

“Nothing obvious.” I said as Derek raised an eyebrow.

“You want to keep him?” Derek asked.

“I want to watch him.” I said and Ethan nodded slowly.

“If he knows we are investigating him, he will change his behavior.” Ethan said.

“Exactly.” I said as I looked at the paperwork again.

“Kyle is inside Lawson Customs, and Paige trusts him enough to let him work around the business.” He said.

“She shouldn’t be told yet.” Derek said and I looked at him.

“That’s what I was thinking.” I said and Ethan closed his laptop.

“If Paige finds out, she will confront him.” Ethan said.

“She probably will.” I said.

“And if Kyle is connected to Victor, we lose whatever advantage we have.” Ethan said and I nodded.

“We keep watching, we keep documenting everything, and we let him make the next mistake.” I said as Derek gave me a serious look.

“What if he doesn’t make one?” Derek asked.

“Then we wait.” I said.

I had learned a long time ago that patience could be more useful than aggression.

Victor expected us to react to every threat, and if Kyle was working for him, the safest move was to make Kyle believe nobody suspected him.

“What about Diesel?” Derek asked and I almost smiled.

“What about him?” I asked.

“He already hates Kyle.” Derek said.

“That dog has better instincts than most people.” I said and Ethan laughed quietly.

“Maybe we should give Diesel a chair in the security room.” Ethan said.

“He would probably do better than half the people I know.” I said.

The humor disappeared quickly because the situation was too serious and I looked at Derek.

“Keep checking Kyle’s history.” I said.

CHAPTER 1942-

“will” Derek said.

“Find everything you can about Redline Motor Works.” I said.

“Already started.” He said.

“Good.” I said and I turned toward Ethan.

“And I want you checking the financial records again.” I said. –

“Looking for Kyle?” Ethan asked.

“I will.” Ethan said but nobody mentioned Paige again.

That was deliberate.

She had spent the morning celebrating Ben’s promotion, and I knew how much that meant to her.

She deserved one day without another threat hanging over her head.

Unfortunately, someone else was already making plans.

Across town, Kyle sat alone in his truck with his phone resting on his thigh. He had been waiting for Victor to contact him.

When the screen finally lit up, his stomach tightened.

YOU NEED TO MOVE FASTER.

Kyle stared at the message when a second message appeared.

THE VAULT IS NOT ENOUGH.

He frowned and then another message arrived.

I WANT WILL’S JOURNALS.

Kyle’s grip tightened around the phone.

He had heard Paige mention the clubhouse vault, but he had never expected Victor to know about Uncle Will’s journals.

He typed a response.

WHY?

The answer arrived almost immediately.

BECAUSE THEY CONTAIN SOMETHING WE CAN’T AFFORD FOR THEM TO FIND.

Kyle stared at the screen and he thought about the journals he had seen in Paige’s office before, and he remembered the old pages, the faded handwriting, and the strange symbol that had appeared in the investigation.

He had assumed the journals were simply family history. Apparently, he had been wrong and his phone buzzed again

Kyle swallowed.

There was a pause and then the final message appeared.

BEFORE PAIGE REALIZES THEY ARE MISSING.

Kyle looked toward Lawson Customs. He knew Paige kept the journals somewhere inside the business, but he didn’t know exactly where.

He also knew Diesel was watching him.
