Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 355
CHAPTER 196-1
I stared at the security monitor, but my mind refused to accept what my eyes were showing me.
The image was grainy, and the lighting inside Lawson Customs had been poor, but the person standing near my office was unmistakable.
Kyle.
Derek froze the footage and enlarged the frame, while Jace stood beside me with his arms folded and his expression harder than I had ever seen it.
“Run it again.” I said so Derek rewound the recording.
The figure entered through the rear of the building, moved down the hallway, and disappeared into the
office.
A few minutes later, he came back out.
This time, the camera caught more of his face and Derek compared the footage with Kyle’s employee photograph, and the resemblance was impossible to dismiss.
“It’s him.” Derek said and I felt something cold settle in my chest.
“No.” I said as Jace looked at me.
“Paige.” Jace said.
“No, I mean that I don’t understand.” I said as I stepped closer to the screen.
“Kyle works here.” I said.
“He does.” Jace said.
“And he has keys.” I said.
“He does.” Jace said and I looked at the footage again.
“So he could have been here legally.” I said but Jace shook his head.
“Not at two in the morning.” Jace said.
That was the part I couldn’t explain away.
Kyle had no reason to be inside Lawson Customs after hours, and he certainly had no reason to search my office.
I looked at the open drawers on the security footage.
“What was he looking for?” I asked as Derek glanced at me.
“We don’t know yet.” Derek said and I thought about the journals.
“The journals.” I said as Jace’s jaw tightened.
<CHAPTER 1964-
You think he was looking for Will’s journals?” Jace asked.
think that’s possible.” I said.
I hated saying it because the idea made everything feel different.
Cam
Kyle had been here every day. He had worked beside Ben. He had talked to Mia. He had taken instructions from me. He had smiled at customers and acted like he belonged.
I had trusted him.
That realization hurt more than I expected.
“I hired him.” I whispered as Jace stepped closer.
“You didn’t know.” Jace said.
“I should have known.” I said.
“You can’t blame yourself for someone else lying.” He said as I looked at him.
“He fooled all of us.” I said.
“Not Diesel.” Jace said.
Despite everything, I almost smiled.
“No, apparently Diesel knew.” I said and Derek nodded toward the screen.
“We need to assume Kyle has had access to more than the workshop.” Derek said as my stomach.
tightened.
“How much?” I asked.
“That’s what we need to determine.” He said.
Mia walked into the security room at that moment, and one look at our faces told her something was
wrong.
“What happened?” She asked and I looked at Jace.
He nodded slightly. Mia deserved to know.
“Someone broke into the office last night.” I said and her face changed.
“Was anything stolen?” She asked.
“Not that we know.” I said.
“Who was it?” She asked and I hesitated.
Then I turned the monitor toward her and Mia stared at the frozen image. Her hand went to her mouth.
“That’s Kyle.” She said.
“Yes.” I said as she looked at me.
